Chongqing Achieves a Regional GDP of 386 billion USD in 2020

Chongqing achieved a regional GDP of 2.5 trillion yuan (about 386.07 billion U.S. dollars)in 2020, up by 3.9% over the previous year, according to the Chongqing Statistics Bureau on January 21.

Chongqing made strategic achievements in the epidemic control, promoted stable economic recovery and pickup, secured a decisive win in poverty alleviation, and achieved the targets during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-2020), said the government spokesperson.

By industry, the added value of the primary industry (including agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery) reached 180.33 billion yuan (about 27.82 billion U.S. dollars), up 4.7% over last year; that of the secondary industry (including mining, manufacturing and electricity, heat, gas and water production and supply) reached 999.22 billion yuan (about 154.16 billion U.S. dollars), up 4.9% over last year; that of the tertiary industry (including services) reached 1,320.73 billion yuan (about 203.76 billion U.S. dollars), up 2.9% over last year. By per capita disposable income, the per capita disposable income of Chongqing residents rose by 6.6% from the previous year to 30,824 yuan (about 4755.6 U.S. dollars).

In the year 2020, Chongqing's economic operation mainly showed the following characteristics: Agricultural production remained stable with pig production seeing a continuous recovery; industrial production grew steadily with emerging growth drivers playing a strong role; the services sector recovered steadily with modern services developing with strong momentum; the consumer markets picked up gradually with online retail growing rapidly; investment in fixed assets bounced back, especially in social sectors and high-tech industries; the supply of the real estate remained stable by and large with the commercial housing sales being on the increase; the rise in the consumer price index slowed down with the industrial producer prices falling slightly; the personal income increased steadily with the ratio of per capita income between urban and rural residents continuing to go down.

In the year 2021, Chongqing will continue to pursue progress while ensuring stability. Guided by the general principle, it will work to advance high-quality development as the focus, pursue supply-side structural reform as the main task, promote reform and innovation as the radical driving forces, and meet the people's increasing needs for a better life as the ultimate goal.

Chongqing will make continuous efforts to consolidate the achievements in epidemic control and economic and social development.
