CPPCC Member Ren Hong: Focus on Training Medical Professionals

"For we doctors, the keywords lie in diagnosis and treatment." As a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Ren Hong is the president of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University and a medical worker and infectious disease specialist who has been working in the clinical front line for a long time. Ren always believes that access to medical care is of vital interest to the people.

A CPPCC member must condense the problems found in in-depth investigation and research into proposals to attract the relevant departments' attention and gradually implement the proposals and improve related issues.

During the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic in 2020, the Chongqing Municipal People's Government held press conferences on epidemic prevention and control. At one conference, Ren answered questions regarding individual patients with COVID-19 who were cured and discharged from the hospital showing positive nucleic acid test results during the recovery period, and he set an example by devoting himself to fighting the epidemic.

In 2020, he actively attended the relevant national meetings and CPPCC Chongqing Municipal Committee meetings, completed six investigations and surveys, participated in two seminars on jointly signed proposals, and submitted four proposals during the Two Sessions of the National People's Congress (NPC) and the CPPCC. Moreover, based on his thinking, he suggested constructing a public health system and stronger construction of smart hospitals. In a word, he carried out his duties conscientiously.

In this year's Two Sessions, Ren will pay attention to the medical education difficulty that urgently needs to be solved. He focuses on three challenges in training medical professionals: How to innovate the system of training doctors? How can the vocational degree articulate with the master's degree? How to train truly qualified doctors?
