Chongqing - The northeastern district of Liangping Chongqing aims to build itself into an inland highland for producing green foods and delicacies in West China by empowering the agriculture industry with rural revitalization and technological innovation, according to a press conference of the district government last Thursday.

Liangping has long been hailed as the "Barn of Bayu," a historical reference to the region of Chongqing, with one of the city's largest arable plain and flatland, it boasts some of the best agricultural produces such as rice, pomelo, duck, bamboo, and bean.

"Since the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, Liangpiang has been dedicated to building itself into an inland highland for producing green foods and delicacies in West China by empowering the agriculture industry with rural revitalization and technological innovation," said Tang Shiping, vice district mayor of Liangping. "Great efforts have been taken to promote the high-quality development of Liangping's specialty industry and to accelerate the construction of a national agricultural hi-tech demonstration area."

Liangping's unique geographical advantages and supreme climatic conditions make it a natural winner in terms of agricultural output, producing 350,000 tons of grain and oil, 650,000 tons of green vegetables, 700,000 live pigs, 1.3 million poultry, 20,000 tons of aquatic products, and 100,000 tons of pomelos every year, with a total annual agricultural output of CNY9.14 billion.

Building on its innate strength in agricultural resources and ecological environment, Liangping is striving to become a regional leader in green food processing with its three 10-billion-yuan projects of building a green food processing demonstration zone, grain and oil growing industry cluster, and a live pig whole industrial chain. Currently, there are a total of 157 green food processing enterprises in the district, of which 34 are industrial enterprises above the designated size, with an annual output of nearly 10 billion yuan.

What's more, Liangping has also come a long way in promoting its hundreds of local specialty brands such as its "Instant Dried Tofu," "Zhang's Duck," and "Pomelo Tea." As of now, it has one famous trademark of China (FTC), 13 famous agricultural products of Chongqing, one China time-honored brand, and eight Chongqing time-honored brands.

In order to better promote its agricultural products and specialty foods in the national and international markets, Liangping actively engaged in various online and offline exhibitions and sales promotional events such as the just-concluded Western China International Fair for Investment and Trade (WCIFIT). It has also initiated the Liangping Plowing Spring Festival, Liangping Autumn Harvest Festival, Liangping International Pomelo Expo, and a series of culture and tourism pro-consumption activities.

From June 18 to 20, Liangping will organize a delegation to participate in the 2021 China Chengdu-Chongqing Food and Delicacy Industry Expo, which will be held at the Chongqing International Convention & Exhibition Center. Themed "Science and Technology Empower Agriculture Industry, Building Chongqing's Consumer Products Industrial Base," the Liangping Pavillion will showcase its latest achievements in green food processing, rural revitalization, and specialty foods branding.
