Chongqing- Online retail sales of Chongqing reached 82.409 billion yuan (about 12.7 billion U.S. dollars) in the first half of 2021. This represents a year-on-year increase of 31.78% and six percentage points higher than the national average growth rate, according to statistics from the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Commerce recently.
Consequently, many well-known e-commerce projects set up Chongqing over the first half of 2021, as 1457 new companies were established in the city, bringing the grand total to around 12,800.
Over the same period, Chongqing has steadily promoted e-commerce in rural areas to give full play in the drive for entrepreneurship and employment opportunities.

Chongqing organized more than 50 events, including the JD Rural Revitalization Support Activities. It held promotions for the Wulingshan Yunda Smart Logistics Industrial Park, the Chongqing Operation Center for Dingdong Shopping, and the Alibaba Chongqing Live Broadcasting Base.
Furthermore, a series of activities such as the Skills Competition in Live e-commerce Broadcasting and the Live Broadcast + Top Host Supply Chain Study Tour was held to promote related industry skills.
Rural online retail sales reached 16.276 billion yuan during this time, a year-on-year increase of 50.86%. Among these, online retail in agricultural products increased by 28.5% on the previous year to account for 7.054 billion yuan.

E-commerce retail industry continues strong development
According to the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Commerce, digital transformation in e-commerce has seen continued progress, while online promotional activities have achieved remarkable results.
Many live promotional broadcasts were held in succession across the 38 districts and counties of Chongqing, which saw the participation of 10 home appliance merchants and live broadcast platforms. At the same time, thousands of companies also took part in over 100 events.
Retail businesses above designated size in Chongqing achieved retail figures of 22.521 billion yuan through online networks, representing a proportional increase of 29.7% in 2020.
Additionally, the income generated by the accommodation and catering industries above the designated size achieved the impressive figure of a 72.8% increase year on year.
