Experience Walking the Traditional Fishbone Layout of Newly Restored 18 Steps - James' Vlog

By JAMES ALEXANDER|Oct 12,2021

Chongqing- Just in time for the National Day Holiday, the meticulous reconstruction that began in 2016 of the famous Shibati, or 18 Steps, has been completed.

The steeply terraced walkway was once a vital thoroughfare leading up and down the southern half of the Yuzhong Peninsula and is steeped in centuries-old Bayu history and culture.

A traditional “fishbone” layout adhering to Bayu style architecture has been retained, while the buildings have been restored according to their original dimensions and appearance.

Historical scenes have been recreated through attractions, including the Copper House Art Museum and  Yuchaofang Theatre, which offer tourists the opportunity to learn about and experience the famous handicrafts and traditional performances.

On the unseasonably hot autumn day of September 30, 2021, iChongqing reporter James takes you on a stroll up and down the 18 Steps just after the new attraction was officially unveiled.
