One Confirmed and Two Asymptomatic Cases-Chongqing Epidemic Updated

Chongqing- One new case and two asymptomatic carriers of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Chongqing Municipality, according to the latest figures released by the Chongqing Municipal Health Commission valid at 00:00 November 5.

Total confirmed cases ongoing in Chongqing Municipality presently number five, with one case in each district of Jiulongpo, Changshou, Ba’nan, Shapingba, and the Liangjiang New Area. In addition, there has been a total of four asymptomatic carriers identified.

The latest confirmed and asymptomatic cases have been detailed as follows;

  • Wei (33-year-old male), a resident of Shuangbei Ziyou Village in Shapingba District, was isolated for quarantine on November 2 after being identified as a primary contact of a recently confirmed case in Sichuan Province. He tested positive for COVID-19 following nucleic acid test results obtained on November 3.
  • Su (30-year-old female), a resident of Shuangbei Ziyou Village in Shapingba District and spouse of above named Wei, was isolated for quarantine on November 2 after being identified as a secondary contact of the recent confirmed case in Sichuan Province. She has been assessed as an asymptomatic carrier following a positive nucleic acid test obtained on November 4.
  • Chen (26-year-old male), a resident of Kangmei Neighborhood in the Liangjiang New Area, was isolated for quarantine on November 2 and is the first primary contact to have contracted COVID-19 in Chongqing Municipality in this stage of the epidemic. He has been assessed as an asymptomatic carrier following a positive nucleic acid test obtained on November 4.

The original case involving Li (32-year-old male of Jiulongpo District) has been confirmed as the Delta variant through genetic sequencing and shares a common source with the recent outbreak in Northwest China.

Since the epidemic began, total confirmed cases numbers 583, of whom 572 have been released following successful treatment, while five are currently under observation and six have died.

Public health, security, and industry information personnel have coordinated with investigation teams on the front line to scientifically identify primary and secondary contacts and swiftly implement control measures.

As of 00:00 on November 5, a total of 28,465 primary contacts had been traced, 27,585 of whom have been released from medical observation, while 880 remain pending further notice.

1.179 million samples had been taken for nucleic acid testing as of 12:00 November 4, 376,000 of which have produced negative results, while the rest are currently pending.

In the meantime, continued resolute action has been taken in the process of screening for cases, categorized management, nucleic acid testing, and medical treatment to prevent the further spread of the epidemic.
