Chongqing Made Progress Building Higher Education with Technology Disciplines

Chongqing- Three new colleges, four joint laboratories, and four research institutes of Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications (CQUPT) were inaugurated at the 2021 annual meeting of the CQUPT Board of Trustees on December 4th.

Three new colleges

"The construction of the modern industrial colleges is committed to transforming the training of theoretical talents in the past into the practical talents, where students need to learn cultural and theoretical knowledge on the one hand and engage in the society and conduct research on the other, " said Professor Gao Xinbo, President of CQUPT. "In doing so, they will be able to play a greater role for society after graduation."

The three new colleges include Chongqing International Logistics and Cross-border E-Commerce Industry College, Industrial Internet College of CQUPT, and Chongqing Characterized Demonstrative Software College.

International Logistics and Cross-border E-Commerce

Chongqing International Logistics and Cross-border E-Commerce Industry College, one of the first batch of key funded modern industry colleges in the city, was jointly built by CQUPT and the Chongqing International Logistics Hub Park.

Connected with the international logistics and cross-border e-commerce industry, the college integrates technologies such as big data, internet of things, and artificial intelligence to build a western first-class, and national leading international logistics and cross-border e-commerce demonstration modern industry college that integrates talent training, innovation and entrepreneurship, strategic consulting, and other functions.

Industrial Internet

Focusing on the core content of the industrial Internet technology architecture, the Industrial Internet College of CQUPT will take the Chongqing Strategic Alliance for Technological Innovation of Industrial Internet as the link and the China Academy of Industrial Internet Chongqing (CAIIC) as the carrier, striving to build a training base of industrial Internet talent and a platform for innovation service that integrates production, learning, research, transformation, creation, and application.

New software technology

Furthermore, Chongqing Characterized Demonstrative Software College serves as a distinctive and exemplary software institute funded by the city, which will focus on the independent and controllable core technology requirements of the new platform software.

The college will focus on 5G, industrial internet, cloud computing, big data, and other fields to build a high-quality talent training model with the platform software combining cloud computing, intelligent technology and Internet of Things.

It will also form an ecological chain to achieve technological innovation, industry-education integration, and school-enterprise cooperation in the field of new platform software.

Booming and emerging technologies 

According to Wu Hequan, Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) academician and Honorary President of CQUPT, the emerging technology industries in Chongqing has been booming in recent years, especially the Smart China Expo that was held in Chongqing in the past few years, gathering a number of big data artificial intelligence enterprises.

"Chongqing has also made good progress in building higher education with big data and artificial intelligence disciplines," said Wu. "New industries are gradually becoming the pillar industries of Chongqing, and its combination of information industry and traditional manufacturing industry has made a good demonstration for China in driving the digital transformation and high-quality development of traditional industries."

According to Zhang Ping, CAE academician and a professor of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, a large platform will be needed for unified command and processing with the development of big data and cross-processing of data in various fields.

He thinks, in this regard, Chongqing still has great opportunities and space in terms of data security.
