Global Export Base for Pickled Mustard Vegetables Built in SW China

Chongqing- The 4th China Chongqing Fuling Mustard Industry International Expo and 2021 World Mustard Industry Innovation Conference will be held from December 16 to 19 in Fuling District, Chongqing. Du Haibo, Executive Deputy District Chief of Fuling District, introduced at the press conference that Sichuan and Chongqing will sign an agreement to jointly build a global pickled mustard export base at the opening ceremony. At the same time, the Fuling Mustard International Order Fair, the awarding of "China's Top Ten Condiment Industry Bases," will also be held, with others.

Chinese pickles base driven by digital technology

"The 'Outline of the Construction Plan for the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle' proposes to build a global pickled vegetable export base will be implemented at the national level," said Jing Kaiyuan, Party members of Fuling District,  "the '14th Five-Year Plan' of Fuling District will focus on building a Chinese pickled mustard export base." To promote the high-quality development of the Sichuan and Chongqing mustard industry and build a highland of pickled vegetables in China, Fuling will join forces with Meishan of Sichuan Province. They will cooperate in original material supply, production and processing, technology research and development, and product marketing. 

To steadily promote the construction of a global pickled vegetable export base, Fuling District has formulated an implementation plan from six aspects, including cultivating and expanding the main body, establishing high-quality original material bases,  strengthening production and marketing service management, promoting green innovation, intensifying resource integration and developing international markets. This year, Fuling mustard was successfully approved by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the Ministry of Finance to develop the upper reaches of the Yangtze River industrial cluster. These will powerfully boost the rapid, healthy, and superior growth of the century-old industry of Fuling mustard. 

Expand international influence 

Pickled mustard is a name card of Fuling and a major brand in Chongqing and China. It originated in Fuling in 1898 and was then introduced to the market and went to the world. After a hundred years, it has become famous both at home and abroad, with European pickles and German sweet and sour kale as the world's three most famous pickles.

In 2021, the total output of Fuling green cabbage head is 1.626 million tons, and it is estimated that more than 500,000 tons of finished mustard tuber will be produced and be sold. The total output value of the mustard industry will reach more than 13 billion yuan. Till now, the Fuling mustard industry has formed more than 100 product varieties in three series: full-shaped mustard, convenient mustard, and export mustard. All these are exported to large and medium-sized cities, counties, towns, and more than 50 countries and regions. 

Rich content carriers and innovative business models 

"The century-old mustard industry is bred by innovation, developed by innovation, and the future depends on innovation," said Du Haibo, Executive Deputy District Chief of Fuling District, at a press conference on December 10.

According to the press conference, this expo will integrate new scenes, formats, and models to create a "cloud exhibition hall" that allows dynamic and panoramic interactions with online and offline integration. Also, the exhibition and the conference will be organically combined by the joint composition of exhibition and sales, expert forums, and public welfare activities at the expo.
