A Look at Innovation Competition for International Students

Chongqing- The final of the Second Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle Innovation Competition for International Students was successfully held at Chengdu University on December 23.

The competition was jointly held by the Department of Human Resources and Social Security of Sichuan Province, The Education Department of Sichuan Province, Chongqing Municipal Bureau of Human Resources and Social Security, and Chongqing Municipal Education Commission.

A total of 113 entries were received in this competition. After the preliminary competition, ten projects in Sichuan and Chongqing each stood out to advance to the finals.

Among the contestants are experienced pioneers who have returned to China to start a business in Chongqing and freshmen from international students in universities. The project team also includes the Royal Academy of Engineering Leading Award winners and talents from well-known universities worldwide.

The participating projects are characterized by high quality and high professionalism, which include strategic emerging industries such as information technology, biomedicine, and digital economy, and innovative and entrepreneurial projects for rural revitalization that are grounded and beneficial to the people's livelihood.

In the final scene, 26 returned overseas students and 34 international students from Sichuan and Chongqing competed on the same stage. After fierce competition, Chongqing had won 1 first prize, 2-second prizes, and three third prizes.

The "Niudi Puli Human Exoskeleton" project from Niudi Technology Development Co., Ltd. in Chongqing was the first to appear at the final scene. With its mature ergonomics technology, it scored 96.2 points and won the first prize. It is reported that Yuan Bo, the co-founder of Niudi Technology Development Co., Ltd., has a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the National University of Defense Technology. In July last year, the weight-bearing exoskeleton designed by Yuan Bo's team has achieved its first mass production. In less than a year, the exoskeleton developed by the team has been sent to the northern cold training base, the Sichuan earthquake rescue training sites, and other related units.

The Second Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle Innovation Competition for International Students is a new international brand activity jointly explored and launched by Sichuan and Chongqing in 2020. So far, it has held two competitions. Accumulatively attracted 221 projects, it is increasingly becoming a fertile ground for cultivating Sichuan-Chongqing international innovative talents. "Promoting innovation through competitions" provides powerful intellectual support for constructing the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle.

A relevant official introduced that "Next, the competition will continue to lead and drive the innovation and entrepreneurship of returned overseas students and foreign students in Sichuan and Chongqing, incubate high-quality entrepreneurial projects, and establish a group of innovative models. We sincerely invite overseas students to take root in Sichuan and Chongqing and promote the Chengdu-Chongqing region to become an active growth pole and a strong source of power with international influence."
