Chongqing’s auto industry ranks 4th nationally

On December 29, the 2021 Chongqing Regional and Industrial Technology Competitiveness and Chengdu-Chongqing  Economic Circle Collaborative Innovation Index Achievement Release Conference jointly organized by Chongqing Academy of Science and Technology and Chongqing Daily News Group was held in Chongqing.

Important guests include He Ping, Secretary of the Academy of Science and Technology; Xu Zhipeng, Deputy Director of Chongqing Science and Technology Bureau; and Jiang Bo, Vice President of Chongqing Daily News Group have attended this conference. At the meeting, the head of the research team of the Chongqing Science and Technology Development Strategy Research Institute respectively released the "2021 Chongqing City and County Science and Technology Competitiveness Evaluation Report", "2021 Chongqing City Industry Science and Technology Competitiveness Evaluation Report", and "2021 Chengdu-Chongqing Twin City Economy" Four Think Tank Achievements in the "Circle Collaborative Innovation Index" and "2021 Yubei District Enterprise Innovation Capability Top Ten List". According to these reports, Among the eight key industries in Chongqing in 2020, the automobile (including new energy and smart cars) industry is still the leading technology of the city, and the industry's technological competitiveness ranks 4th in the country, which is the same as in 2019 and is the highest among the key industries. The scientific and technological competitiveness of the electronic information industry ranks 5th in the country, an increase of 1 place compared to 2019. The level of scientific and technological competitiveness of the chemical and equipment manufacturing industries ranks 6th in the country, up 2 and 1 places respectively from 2019.

2021 Chongqing City and County Science and Technology Competitiveness Evaluation Report show that in 2020, the top 3 districts and counties in the city are Yubei District, Shapingba District, and Jiangbei District in order.

According to the Evaluation Report on the Collaborative Innovation Index of Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle in 2021, the level of collaborative innovation in the Chengdu-Chongqing region has rapidly improved, and the total collaborative innovation index increased by 9.5%.

It can be seen from the report that there are many highlights in collaborative innovation in Chengdu and Chongqing. Initially, the rapid growth of R&D investment, with a growth rate of 83.2% from 2016 to 2020, is 27.6% higher than the national average growth rate; secondly, the continuous accumulation of innovative talents. From 2016 to 2020, research and experimental development (R&D) in Chengdu and Chongqing indicates that full-time equivalent of personnel increased by 53.4%, which was 22.1% higher than the national average growth rate; thirdly, the scientific research cooperation between universities and research institutes in Chengdu and Chongqing has been continuously deepened. From 2017 to 2020, the gross output value of national-level new districts in the Chengdu-Chongqing region increased by 46.2%, and the gross industrial output value of enterprises in the state-level high-tech zones increased by 33.2%, both higher than the national average growth rate. Fourth, the industry linkage has accelerated, and the supporting capacity of key parks in the Chengdu-Chongqing region has been improved. From 2017 to 2020, the national-level new zone's GDP in the Chengdu-Chongqing region increased by 46.2%. The national-level high-tech zone's industrial output value increased by 33.2%, higher than the national average growth rate. Fifth, environmental support and transportation are strengthened. The infrastructure is constantly improving. From 2016 to 2020, the density of expressways and railways in the Chengdu-Chongqing area increased by 38.6%, 26.6% points higher than the national average growth rate.

The "Chongqing City Regional and Industrial Technology Competitiveness Evaluation" series of research reports are developed by the Chongqing Institute of Science and Technology (CAST Valley) project team to continuously grasp the level of scientific and technological competitiveness of the city's districts, counties, and key industries. In 2021, the research team further optimized the evaluation index system and continued to collect and compile data using a combination of big data and traditional statistical data. The research results were followed up and reported by many news media outlets across China and the world.
