Chongqing to Develop National Center for Advanced Manufacturing in SW China

Chongqing- The industrial profits in Chongqing grew by an average of 28.5% in two years, 10.3 percentage points higher than China's average.

In the same period, the city's average growth rate of the value-added of the industrial enterprises above the designated size stood at 8.2%.

To reach those tremendous rewards, Chongqing has expedited its development into a national center for advanced manufacturing by optimizing industrial structure, improving innovative capability, and driving big data intelligence in China.

Rising of emerging industries with innovation

On February 10, after a Spring Festival holiday, Mexin Group resumed production, with smart production lines in full swing, which can complete all processes automatically as long as workers press the red button beside.

Thanks to the upgraded industrial structure via production line reconstruction, the base now needs only around 20 workers, reduced from over 100 before. The production cycle has been shortened by nearly 2/3, and the overall cost has been cut by 30%.

As a result, in 2021, the value-added of industries, including automobile, electronics, equipment, and biomedicine, in Chongqing celebrated that the growth rate topped 10%.

Similarly, a piece of ordinary glass can become an expensive liquid-crystal display (LCD) 15 days after entering the factory of Chongqing HKC Optoelectronics Technology Co., Ltd. ("Chongqing HKC" for short).

According to the company, it has adopted a smart production process due to the efforts of R&D employees, who account for 40% of the total. Innovation improves both its output and product quality.

Chongqing HKC is not the only one in the city that achieves innovation-powered high-quality development. Laying the roots in the existing industrial base, Chongqing enterprises further extend their industrial chains by innovation and R&D to boost positive development of production and operation.

Besides, innovation has boosted an array of industrial projects to lead the accelerated rising of strategic emerging industries. By the end of 2021, the value-added of strategic emerging and high-tech manufacturing industries increased by 18.2% and 18.1%, respectively, effectively polishing the city's industrial and economic structure.

Better quality with big data intelligence

In Chongqing enterprises, it is common to see that displays show real-time data and clear production processes, raw material supply, warehousing, logistics, and other steps connect as a whole, and "workshop brains" decide orders and product quantity automatically.

When constructing the Powerhouse of Smart Manufacturing, Chongqing carried out the innovation-driven development strategy led by big data intelligence to recreate growth engines, introducing solid progress in industrial restructuring and enterprise transformation and upgrading.

For example, Chang'an Automobile, a leader in the automobile industry in Chongqing, has owned at least 200 smart core technologies and over 70 smart functions applied to mass-produced models as of the end of 2021, as a result of years of great investment in the transformation to smart manufacturing.

Meanwhile, expecting a full range of industrial categories and rich industrial internet application scenarios in Chongqing, leading enterprises in this field, such as Chongqing Feixiang Industrial Internet, Haier COSMOplat Internet of Things Ecological Technology, and Rootcloud Technology, were established here.

By the end of 2021, Chongqing had 105 smart factories and 574 digital workshops. It helped 101,000 enterprises to realize "cloudification, digitization, and intelligentization," which have improved production efficiency by 59.8% and significantly decreased operating costs, defect rates, energy consumption, and other indicators.

With the comprehensive development of "5G + smart manufacturing", Chongqing ranked 7th in China in terms of the national informatization and industrialization integration development index.
