Expats, Diplomats Celebrate International Women’s Day in China’s Chongqing

Chongqing - Chongqing has held Chinese and international women's exchange activities on March 9 to celebrate International Women's Day. It has invited representatives of female Consul Generals and consular officials in Chongqing, representatives of women from all walks of life, and foreign women working in Chongqing.

Consular officials exchanged views on women's careers development in their countries and visited the Western (Chongqing) Science City and Yuzhong District to experience Chongqing's urban renewal.

Exchange views on women's career development

Flerida Ann Camille P. Mayo, Consul General of the Philippines in Chongqing, introduced the pioneering work of Filipino women who helped shape the global agenda on gender equality. She stressed the Philippine setting in various laws, rules, regulations, and policies pertaining to women's rights as well as gender and development.

Takada Mari, Consul General of Japan in Chongqing, shared her observations on women's careers development in Japan.

Adriana Lori, Acting Consul General of Italy in Chongqing, recalled how the Italian law system has changed throughout the years to guarantee women's protection and ease their participation in the workforce.

Wang Wen, Director of Foreign Affairs Office of Chongqing Municipality, said that International Women's Day is a global holiday for women to strive for equality, justice, peace and development, and a way to record women's achievement.

The women's exchange activities are expected to promote the friendship and exchanges between Chongqing and women from all over the world and play a positive role in building Chongqing as an international exchange center in the central and western regions in China.

Feel the vibes of Chongqing's urban vitality

The Chinese and international women representatives visited the Jinfeng Laboratory and Planning Exhibition Hall in the Western (Chongqing) Science City. They have learned about its plans and development, industrial layout, and key projects of the Western Science City and expect cooperation opportunities.

Xu Xiaoqiang, deputy secretary of the Party Working Committee of the Western (Chongqing) Science City, introduced the Science City and sent an invitation to female elites around the world to start a career here.

In the afternoon, everyone was on the mountainside to appreciate the unique tourist attraction of Chongqing, "The Train to Spring," which was praised by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and became popular on the Internet. The development process and planning of Chongqing's rail transit have been introduced.
