Foreign Trade Between Chongqing and India Reached 12.47Billion Yuan in 2022, 54.4% Up

Chongqing- The electronics sector became the key factor in driving the increase in the city's export and import among all the main industries of Chongqing, according to a press conference released on July 18.

Chongqing has reported about 423.65 billion yuan (approx. 62.78 billion US dollars) of the total export and import value in the first half of 2022, up 12.5%. The electronics sector at least holds 190.6 billion yuan, about 45% of the total value. In contrast, the other big industry, the auto manufacturing sector, has contributed 17.3 billion yuan to the city's export and import, according to the data released.

Laptops make up one-third of the total export, contributing 97.31 billion yuan, followed by integrated circuits, which have 18.92 billion yuan that rank second. The first two most significant shares for import are integrated circuits and storage parts.

All of these prove the strong reliance of Chongqing's foreign trade on the electronics industry chain.

Although that other manufacturing fields like the auto industry make considerable contributions to the city's economy, electronics manufacturing is undoubtedly the de facto most significant industry for Chongqing in foreign trade because electronics manufacturing in Chongqing is mainly export-oriented.

Chongqing is the world's largest laptop manufacturing base, producing about 100 million laptops annually. The world's famous PC producers like HP, Acer, Asus and Foxconn, Inventec, and Lenovo have set up manufacturing bases in Chongqing. According to government data, one of every three laptops in the world comes from this Chinese inland city.

"There are many reasons for Chongqing to keep a stably increasing export and import this half year," said Wang Honghan, Deputy Commissioner of Chongqing Custom District. "One is that we keep the pandemic situation in control, which keeps the market entities active."

Undoubtedly, Wang's words correspond with the steady increase in export and import of the private enterprise sector (up 17.8%) and foreign investment enterprise sector (up 10.8%) amid the global economic downturn affected by the pandemic.

The export and import to South Korea and India also see considerable growth, where Chongqing made about 37.36 billion yuan of export and import to South Korea (up 40.8%) and 12.47 billion yuan to India (up 54.4%).
