Guest Country Mexico is Chongqing’s Largest Trading Partner in Latin America

Chongqing– The 4th Western China International Fair for Investment and Trade (WCIFIT) is held in Chongqing from July 21 to 24. Mexico was invited to be the honored guest country for this year's WCIFIT for one crucial reason: Mexico is Chongqing's largest trading partner in Latin America.

In 2021, the total import and export volume between Chongqing and Mexico reached 12.85 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 6.1 percent.

As the guest country, H.E. Mr. Jesús Seade, Ambassador of Mexico to China, will bring a delegation to Chongqing to participate in the fair. They will host colorful activities to promote Mexico to Chongqing in an all-around way.

According to the Mexico Chamber of Commerce in China(MEXCHAM), the business delegation comprises representatives from 24 Mexican companies. During the WCIFIT, Mexico will hold economic and trade activities. For example, the opening ceremony of the Mexico National Pavilion, the Mexico-China (Chongqing) Investment and Trade Fair, and the opening of the Chongqing Office of the MEXCHAM.

In addition, it also prepares some cultural events for this fair, such as the "Ambassador Recommends a Good Book" reading club, the special photo exhibition for the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Mexico, and the Mexico Film Festival.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between China and Mexico. Chongqing has always kept dynamic and close economic ties to Mexico.

Besides, in November 2013, Chongqing and Nuevo Leon signed a sister city-state relationship; in 2020, Fengdu County and Guanajuato City forged friendly relations.

Based on existing cooperations, the WCIFIT has built a broader platform for Chongqing and Mexico to expand economic and trade exchanges and provided a bridge for enhancing the friendship between the two places.

On the one hand, as an economic and trade platform for open cooperation, mutual benefit, and sharing, the West China Fair allows Mexican and Chongqing enterprises to fully connect and tap the potential for collaboration.

On the other hand, the series of cultural activities hosted by the guest country will allow Chongqing residents to understand Mexican culture better.
