Chongqing Cooperates with the CICG to Train ASEAN Languages Talents

Chongqing- China International Communications Group and the Foreign Affairs Office of Chongqing Municipal People's Government signed a strategic cooperative agreement at Yuelai Forum: Cities for International Communication in Chongqing. At the same time, the Western and Central China Branch, Academy of Translation and Interpretation, China International Communications Group(CICG)was established.

The Western and Central China Branch, Academy of Translation and Interpretation, CICG is co-founded by the Academy of Translation and Interpretation, CICG, the Foreign Affairs Office of Chongqing Municipal People's Government, and Jiangbei District. Xing Yutang, Director of Translation, CICG Academy of Translation and Interpretation, the Western and Central China Branch, Academy of Translation and Interpretation, provides translation services for major translation projects such as conference interpreters, translations of books and documents, and others related to Chongqing. It will also test, train, assess, and select translators, interpreters, and language professionals.

Moreover, the institute will provide language examinations and credential programs for people who learn languages of ASEAN countries, according to Li Jiaying, the Chief Interpreter at Chongqing Translation and Interpretation Center. Even though ASEAN countries are Chongqing's top trading partners, the city lacks talent who are fluent in ASEAN languages. As a result of the partnership with the Academy of Translation and Interpretation, CICG, weak links in ASEAN languages interpretation and translation will be strengthened in Chongqing, central and western China. Testing and credential programs for students studying languages of ASEAN countries will be offered by the institute, which will provide a solution to the shortage of national-level examinations for students studying languages of ASEAN countries, which will contribute to enhancing exchanges and cooperation between Chongqing and ASEAN.
