Changan Auto Marching towards Electric Transformation | China’s Smart City

Chongqing- Changan Auto, one of China's Big Four auto groups, has been accelerating to development of its electric vehicle sector in recent years.

A couple of years ago, Changan started to upgrade its traditional products by connecting them to the Internet and adding intelligent features. Changan is now making clear moves toward electric transformation.

Models such as E-star and LUMIN are targeted at low-price markets. The Deepal brand was created as the new image of the company's electric vehicle flag. Cooperating with Huawei and the global battery leader CTAL, the three companies jointly launched AVATR, a brand that targets the high-end market.

According to Guo Tong, General Manager of the Strategy and Marketing Department of Changan Deepal, the company will ultimately sell its electric vehicles overseas. "We hope Changan Deepal will become a world-renowned Chinese new energy brand," he said.

Changan's move is not unique. It unveils information on how popular electric vehicle investment is in China and how the wave of electric transformation rapidly influenced all major auto producers in the country. Some industry experts believe the collective action gives the country's products a chance to lead the next great global competition in the auto revolution.

The country seems to support the companies by promoting electric vehicles, as the growing number of electric vehicles can help reduce carbon emissions, in line with national plans to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, making electric vehicles in China fashionable for investors.
