SCE Helps Value Added of Chongqing’s Digital Economy Accounts for 27.2% of GDP

Chongqing- 665 exhibitors from 19 countries and regions signed 70 key projects with an investment of 212.11 billion yuan (about 30.94 billion U.S. dollars) at the Smart China Expo (SCE) 2022, covering the sectors of intelligent connected vehicles (ICVs), the new generation of information technology, biomedicine, and others, said Chen Mingbo, Deputy Mayor of Chongqing Municipal Government, at the press conference on August 25. 

Various activities were held online and offline during this year's SCE, including conferences, exhibitions, competitions, discussions, and signings and releases.

The conference brought together the wisdom of all parties to share insights into smart industry development, with 17 guests delivering their speeches, including Nobel Prize winners, Turing Prize winners, academicians from the Chinese Academy of Science and Chinese Academy of Engineering, and business leaders.

More than 100 new products, technologies, and achievements were released for the first time at the Expo, including Beitai Tianyuan numerical computing general software v2.0 and the "city brain" big data platform. One thousand five hundred sixty application scenarios in over 30 fields were presented offline, highlighting intelligent manufacturing, transportation, and community.

As Chen added, Chongqing marks its fifth year hosting SCE, a testament to the city's and the event's mutual success. By promoting the global intelligence industry and deepening international cooperation in the digital economy, the SCE contributes to China's wisdom and demonstrates Chongqing's responsibility. 

Each session of SCE invites global politicians, businesses, industry elites, and leading enterprises to participate with international and professional perspectives. 

In total, more than 160 forums have been held over the years. A total of 12 domestic and foreign dignitaries, 13 heads of international organizations, over 200 domestic and foreign academicians and experts, and over 150 leaders of Fortune 500 companies have conducted dialogues and exchanged ideas with each other. 

Furthermore, 433 releases were held at the SCE, including 33 new technologies, 164 new products, and 136 new scenarios, including quantum key distribution, hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, and 5G remote operation and maintenance. There were 65 recent achievements highlighted, including a report on China's intelligence index.

Meanwhile, the SCE actively meets the needs of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), countries along the Belt and Road, sister provinces, and cities, fostering international and domestic technology exchanges and economic and trade cooperation. 

Thanks to the SCE, 15 provinces and cities like Sichuan, Shandong, and Hubei, have negotiated and signed 191 projects with an agreed investment amount of 51.4 billion yuan. In Chongqing, 323 projects were signed with 131.06 billion yuan of funds in place. 

"The SCE brings together the advantages of science and technology, talents, capital, and projects, enabling Chongqing to promote the high-quality development of the digital economy," said Deputy Mayor Chen.

With the value added of the digital economy growing to 27.2% of gross domestic product (GDP), Chongqing has made significant efforts to boost the digital economy.
