A team specializing in automotive-grade power semiconductors won the first prize in the Mingyue Lake International Innovation & Entrepreneurship Competition final held at the Liangjiang Collaborative Innovation Zone in Chongqing on December 29.

Focusing on the localized replacement of automotive-grade IGBTs and MOSFETs and the development of automotive-grade power semiconductors, the products are believed to have strong potential to relieve the domestic automotive chip shortage in the relevant sector.

“We have established cooperation with some prominent players in the new energy vehicle sector worldwide,” the team presenter said. “So far, we have delivered 10 million pieces, and not a single piece was found ineffective.”

Nearly 700 teams signed up for the competition this year, with some cutting-edge technologies and products staged. About 30 teams came from different countries and regions, including the UK, Germany, Netherlands, Italy, Israel, and South Korea. The first prize was worth 50 million RMB.

The competition was initiated in 2021 in Liangjiang New Area to encourage technological innovation and identify and support potential projects and teams.

The 2022 session kicked off in July and set up nine segments, focusing on strategic emerging industries such as new energy and intelligent connected vehicles, high-end equipment, industrial software, and new materials.

Liangjiang will continue focusing on technological innovation, gathering high-end innovation resources, creating a first-class innovation environment, building Mingyue Lake into a prominent intellectual property, and making the new area an ideal destination for technological innovation and entrepreneurs in west China, said Li Jie, a member of the Chongqing Liangjiang New Area Party Work Committee and vice-director of the Chongqing Liangjiang New Area Administrative Committee.
