The first session of CPPCC Chongqing will be held for four days from January 12 to 15. About 1,100 people including committee members, honored guests and observers, will be present at the session. It involves a greater representation of Chongqing locals working in other cities, representatives who come to Chongqing to invest and start businesses, and ones from Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions who work in Chongqing. Its main tasks include listening to and deliberating the work report of the standing committee of the fifth CPPCC Chongqing.

In China's political system, the NPC works as its top legislature and the CPPCC as the top political advisory body. The annual meetings they held are called the "Two Sessions," ahead of which meetings at a lower level will also be held once a year.
