Chongqing - On February 16, Yuan Jiajun, secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Chongqing Municipal Committee, and Hu Henghua, Mayor of Chongqing Municipal People's Government, separately met with Graham Fletcher, the Ambassador of Australia to China, and Jesús Seade Kuri, the ambassador of Mexico to China, and Jorg Wuttke, President of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China respectively.

During the meeting, Yuan Jiajun said that the meeting between President Xi Jinping and the Prime Minister of Australia in Bali, Indonesia, in November last year provided direction for improving bilateral relations between China and Australia.
Chongqing is willing to actively implement the important consensus reached by the two countries leaders, further strengthen exchanges and cooperation in relevant fields between Chongqing and Australia, and contribute to developing a comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Australia.
Graham Fletcher said that Chongqing is a unique and beautiful city, and he is pleased to visit Chongqing for interactive exchanges. He believed that Chongqing is very important in promoting the continuous development of bilateral relations between China and Australia. This visit witnessed friendly exchanges between Australia and Chongqing in multiple areas, and expects future cooperation to deepen.
He hoped that both sides will further enhance communication and coordination, promote the deepening of cooperation in agriculture and trade, energy industry, tourism and education, and friendship between sister cities, and achieve more cooperation results, contributing to the continuous development of Sino-Australian relations.
On the same day, Yuan Jiajun and Hu Henghua also met with the Ambassador of Mexico to China, Jesús Seade Kuri. Yuan Jiajun said the friendly exchanges between the Chinese and Mexican people have a long history. Last year they marked the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between China and Mexico. President Xi Jinping and President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador exchanged congratulatory messages, providing direction and a strong impetus for developing Sino-Mexican relations.

The Ambassador of Mexico to China expressed his appreciation for the warm reception and substantial support provided by Chongqing to Mexico during the pandemic. He hopes to strengthen exchanges and interactions with Chongqing, promote people-to-people exchanges, deepen cooperation in various fields such as trade, education, culture, and tourism, enhance friendship and collaboration, and contribute to the sustained development China-Mexico relations.
He hoped to enhance communication and exchanges further, promote mutual understanding between the people of the two regions, and strengthen all-around cooperation in new energy vehicles, culture, education, and personnel exchange, striving to achieve more fruitful cooperation results. He also welcomed Chongqing's manufacturing companies to invest in Mexico.
Later on the same day, Yuan Jiajun and Mayor Hu Henghua met with Jorg Wuttke, President of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China and Global Vice President of BASF Group. They welcomed the delegation and introduced the economic and social development of Chongqing.

Yuan Jiajun said that as the only municipality directly under the central government in China's central and western regions, Chongqing is an essential major city for the country. The central government has entrusted Chongqing with significant strategic missions, such as promoting the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle and The New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, which will bring unprecedented opportunities for China's modernization in a Chinese way.
Chongqing's solid industrial foundation accelerates the development of intelligent manufacturing, digital economy, biotechnology, and green and low-carbon industries, creating broad space and new opportunities for enterprises to develop in Chongqing.
The EU is an important trade partner and source of investment for Chongqing. Deepening mutually beneficial cooperation is in the common interest of both sides and a shared goal of the business community.
Jorg Wuttke expressed his gratitude for the thoughtful arrangements made for the delegation and the strong support for European companies' development in Chongqing. He said that Chongqing is a major city in western China with a good development momentum and great potential. He is willing to continue to deepen communication and promote practical cooperation, sharing new opportunities brought by the construction of the new Chongqing.
