China’s First Medium Capacity Monorail System Vehicle Rolled out in Chongqing

Chongqing - China’s first multi-adaptive medium capacity monorail system rail vehicle developed by Chongqing CRRC Railway Vehicles Co., Ltd. (Chongqing CRRC) was rolled out in Chongqing lately, which will further drive the smart development of Chongqing railway.

As the first case in China, this system can provide brand new solutions to multi-capacity railway transit, which is featured with the advantages such as meeting various demands for traffic intensity and operation scenarios as well as low comprehensive cost.

Chongqing CRRC, located in Chongqing Liangjiang New Area, is Chongqing’s leading enterprise and the largest global monorail research and manufacturing base. The company has already provided nearly 3,000 urban rail vehicles both at home and abroad.

Compared with traditional monorail, the net weight of the new model reduces by about 20% by applying cutting-edge technologies like carbon fiber composite and electro-mechanical brake, with strong climbing capability and adaptability to high and low temperatures. Its maximum running speed is up to 80km/h.

Each monorail carriage is structured with 14 fixed seats and four folding seats. The carriage length is shorter than the traditional one, with a capacity of 136 passengers. The monorail can deliver 5,000 to 20,000 passengers per hour through flexible grouping.  

The monorail adopts the highest-level autonomous driving technology, which can realize the functions of automatic waking-up, automatic start-stop, and automatic return to the depot. 

Its smart design is compatible with new technology applications such as vehicle-to-vehicle communication, new energy supply, and multi-network system, which facilitates smart travel, smart maintenance, and smart service, bringing citizens a smarter travel experience.

It is interesting to know that the monorail transit system was unveiled together with the new model. The system can provide unique solutions for carrying capacities, meet passenger flows and operation scenarios, and lower total costs.

On the same day, Chongqing Rail Transit (Group) Co., Ltd. signed a cooperation agreement with CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles Co., Ltd., one of the co-founders of Chongqing CRRC, and China Railway Signal & Communication Corporation (CRSC) to establish joint venture company, aiming to strengthen the in-depth cooperation on rail transit vehicle and communication signal manufacturing and maintenance.

According to Wang Zhi, the board chairman of Chongqing Rail Transit (Group) Co., Ltd., the new model is the key milestone for developing a Chinese straddle-type monorail. Chongqing Transit Group will keep cooperating with CRRC to drive Chongqing rail transit into digitization and intelligence.
