Private Economy Accounts for Over 50% of Chongqing’s Total Added Value | Statistics

Chongqing - Chongqing's economy maintained recovery in 2022 despite multiple pressures, according to the 2022 Chongqing national economic and social development statistics released on March 17.

In 2022, Chongqing's regional gross domestic product (GDP) reached 2.91 trillion yuan, up 2.6% from the previous year. The per capita GDP for the year was 90,663 yuan, up 2.5%. The private economy's added value was 1.74 trillion yuan, accounting for 59.7% of the city's total added value, and an increase of 3%.

Chongqing's efforts to create a world-class intelligent-connected and new energy vehicle industry cluster are bearing fruit, as the added value of the new energy vehicle industry increased by 136.3% yearly. 

Additionally, automobile consumption in Chongqing remained strong, with a total of 8.91 million civilian vehicles in the city, an increase of 6.5% from the previous year.

With Chongqing's growing transportation and logistics sector, the city's international transportation and logistics hub status is rising. 

Chongqing transported 148,000 standard containers and goods worth 25.1 billion yuan through the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, an increase of 32% and 34%, respectively, from the previous year. 

The China-Europe Railway Express (Chengdu-Chongqing) has run more than 5,000 trains, accounting for nearly 30% of the total number of trains in the country. The transportation routes cover almost 50 countries and over 100 cities.

Furthermore, the city's environment showed positive signs in 2022, with a decrease of 2.7% in energy consumption per unit of GDP compared to the previous year. The city also had good air quality for 332 days and a forest coverage rate of 55.0%.

The permanent population of Chongqing at the end of 2022 was 32.13 million, which increased by about 9.1 thousand over the year 2021. Of the total, 22.8 million were permanent urban residents, indicating an urbanization rate of 70.96%, up 0.64%. 

The slight increase happened when the natural population growth rate was -2.11‰, which showed that more migrants moved to Chongqing.

The city's urban residents saw improvements in their living standards. The per capita disposable income of urban residents was 35,666 yuan, up 5.5% from the previous year, while the per capita consumption expenditure was 25,371 yuan, up 3.1% from the prior year. The Engel coefficient of urban residents increased by 0.7 percentage points to 33.9%.
