Chongqing - Inland areas are far from coastal regions in developing foreign trade due to geographical conditions and other factors. Whereas cross-border e-commerce enjoys a growing appeal, such new trade forms partly narrowed the gap.

In Southwest China's Chongqing, Guogui Technology, a local company that exports auto parts to foreign countries through cross-border e-commerce platforms, epitomizes how inland enterprises can tap into the global market through cross-border e-commerce.

Inland companies share global dividends through cross-border e-commerce

"Based in Chongqing, we have great position advantages like the China Railway Express," said Jennifer Li, sales director of Chongqing Guogui Racing Technology Co., Ltd. 

From Chongqing, products can be shipped to Duisburg, Germany, via China Railway Express and distributed to European warehouses. 

"This greatly optimizes logistics processes," Li said. "Compared to sea shipping, railway shipping saves more than 30 days."

In addition to Guogui Technology, an increasing number of inland businesses are breaking down traditional geographical barriers and distributing their products globally.

Chongqing Xienvik Supply Chain Management Co., Ltd. serves as another instance, having relocated its warehouse from Yiwu, Zhejiang Province, to Chongqing.

For Cindy Qiu, the company's general manager, Chongqing provides an exceptional business environment. Its logistics infrastructure and government policies are notably conducive to local cross-border e-commerce.

"Since moving from Yiwu back to Chongqing, our pickups on platforms like AliExpress have increased from three times a week to five," said Qiu.

Due to a reliable internet connection, customers can now receive their goods more swiftly. "This shift has significantly boosted our logistics efficiency," Qiu added. 

eBay promotes local automobile and motorcycle parts to go global

Alongside these enterprising local companies, several astute international e-commerce platforms, including the global e-commerce leader eBay, began to venture into western China to foster their new business endeavors locally.

"As we all know, Chongqing is an automobile city in western China. It has a strong industrial chain background," said Kevin Deng, business development manager of eBay. "eBay may be one of the largest trading platforms in the world in the automobile and motorcycle parts sector."

Chongqing Miduoqi International Logistics Co., Ltd. also manages the Chongqing Xiyong Cross-Border E-commerce Industrial Park, which has been operational since January last year. The park currently hosts 30 enterprises, including five that have reached the hundred-million-yuan mark.

Recently, Chongqing has established itself as a logistics hub in the western region, with enhancements in inland logistics forming the backbone for the growth of cross-border e-commerce.

For instance, Xiyong is situated less than 5 kilometers from the railway port as the crow flies. This location provides considerable advantages for projects such as the Yuxinou Railway and the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, stated Jaime Lv, deputy general manager of Chongqing Miduoqi International Logistics Co., Ltd.
