Chongqing Aligns with SF Kerry Logistics on Southeast Asian Freight Transport

Chongqing - An international railway freight train loaded with a range of electrical products and complete sets of equipment slowly departed from Chongqing Tuanjie Village Central Station on May 29, which is expected to arrive in Hanoi, Vietnam, in approximately five days.

Chen Shangwen, Director General Level Officer (Grade II) of the Chongqing Port and Logistics Office, said that launching SF Kerry Logistics' Vietnam freight train is another vivid practice of Chongqing working with a leading logistics company to build a high-level sea passage.

"It provides a valuable reference for the comprehensive development and promotion of a 'door-to-door' supply chain solution from Chongqing as a gathering center to Southeast Asia," he said.

This specialized train is operated by SF Kerry Logistics, with Chongqing-Xinjiang-Europe (Yuxinou) Logistics Company as the carrier.

SF Kerry Logistics is the Asia-Pacific region's largest third-party international logistics service provider. In 2021, SF Kerry Logistics was acquired by SF Holding, China's most extensive and the world's fourth-largest comprehensive logistics service provider, now holding a 51.8% stake. This acquisition has positioned SF Kerry Logistics as a core force for SF Holding in exploring the Southeast Asian market.

According to the head of SF Holding in Chongqing, SF Kerry Logistics will leverage its advantageous business resource system, particularly its local network in Southeast Asia, to develop joint products using SF Holding's standardized services.

Currently, Chongqing has already established regular international freight train services to Laos and Vietnam.

From January to April this year, Chongqing transported 51,000 standard containers through the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor (ILSTC), representing a year-on-year increase of 37%. The total value of goods reached 7.884 billion yuan, showing a year-on-year increase of 24%.

Chongqing-Xinjiang-Europe (Yuxinou) Logistics Company was the first to open and operate a train route to Vietnam in 2018, connecting China with the European and Southeast Asian markets.

According to Gao Chenglin, Sales Manager at the Marketing Center of Yuxinou (Chongqing) Supply Chain Management Co., Ltd., in the first quarter of 2023, Yuxinou operated nearly 60 trains to Vietnam, transporting over 700 containers with a total value of approximately 700 million yuan. The container occupancy rate remained at 100%.
