Chongqing Unveils Plan to Build Intelligent Connected NEV Parts Cluster

Chongqing - Chongqing Municipal People's Government plans to create a complementary industrial cluster for new energy vehicle parts in its western region of eight districts, with a target of reaching 1,000 enterprises and a production value of 400 billion yuan (about USD 62.5 billion) by 2027.

According to the newly-released action plan from 2023 to 2027, the industrial development of intelligent connected and new energy vehicle parts involves coordinated efforts of eight districts - Bishan, Yongchuan, Tongliang, Hechuan, Jiangjin, Tongnan, Dazu, and Rongchang.

The plan aims to accelerate the establishment of a leading national base for the intelligent connected new energy vehicle parts industry.

According to the plan, each district will specialize in different products, forming a complete components industry chain overall.

For instance, Bishan will focus on power batteries, electric drive, and electric steering, while Yongchuan will prioritize the development of intelligent cabins and intelligent driving. Hechuan will develop electric brakes, vehicle-road-network connectivity, vehicle body, and interior and exterior decorations.

This plan is developed within the framework of two larger strategic initiatives. One is the plan announced by the municipal government last September to build a world-class intelligent connected and new energy vehicle industrial cluster.

For many years, the western regions of Chongqing have combined the advantages of the city's industries, absorbed industrial transfers from the central urban areas, and already formed a large-scale automotive industry cluster.

The other initiative is the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle. It's necessary to accelerate the high-quality integrated development of the western regions and expedite the creation of a demonstration zone for modern industrial development in the western regions.

The eight districts of the western region of Chongqing, adjacent to Sichuan Province, belong to the core area of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle.

A development fund for the intelligent connected and new energy vehicle parts industry will also be established, with the municipal level providing 40% of the funds.
