Chongqing - In major progress towards sustainability and innovation, Southwest China's Chongqing is setting the pace with a strategic shift towards green construction and prefabricated buildings. This move has catalyzed the construction industry's transformation, steering it towards intelligent construction, industrialization, and low-carbon sustainability.
Prefabricated construction, a method where components are manufactured off-site and swiftly assembled at the construction site, has multiple advantages over traditional methods. It facilitates a reduction of over 30% in on-site labor, trims down project timelines by 30%, lowers construction energy consumption by 20%, minimizes construction waste by a significant 70%, and elevates building quality. As the system necessitates fewer on-site workers, it proves economical.
"Chongqing's construction industrialization standards are among the best in the western region and have earned recognition as a national model city for prefabricated buildings," stated Liu Jianwei, Director of the Science and Technology Foreign Affairs Office of the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Housing and Urban-Rural Development.
Chongqing has accomplished the implementation of 47 million square meters of prefabricated buildings in residential construction, paving the way for high-quality demonstration projects such as the Zhongke Building.
In 2022, nearly 30% of Chongqing's new construction projects adopted prefabricated construction methods. The acceleration of new technologies like modular buildings, new wall materials, and modular floor heating has further facilitated this transition.

Highest assembly rate among high-rise concrete structures in Chongqing
A testament to Chongqing's progress is the A129# plant project located in the Chongqing Airport Industrial Park.
Spanning 28,400 square meters, this industrial plant is a 10-story, 40-meter high-rise building and is a pioneering project by the China Construction Science and Technology Group Co., Ltd. With an assembly rate of 77%, it boasts the highest assembly rate among high-rise concrete structures in Chongqing.
This innovative project embraces new technologies, materials, and processes, such as the "prefabricated column grouting without sealing" technology and the "prestressed hollow slab and composite beam without support" technical system. These innovations foster resource conservation, reduce construction pollution, boost labor productivity, and raise safety and quality levels, thus propelling the evolution of industrialized construction.
Additionally, the project's structural design employs a fully assembled integral frame shear wall structure, marking it as Chongqing's first fully-assembled high-rise industrial plant featuring a combination of prefabricated columns, composite beams, prefabricated stairs, prestressed hollow floor slabs, and prefabricated external walls.
The project is currently in the stages of electromechanical installation and interior decoration, with an anticipated completion and delivery by the end of this year.
