China Clinches First Climbing Gold Medals in Asian Games History

Hangzhou - On October 4th, Team China triumphed over their formidable opponent, Team Indonesia, capturing gold medals in both the men’s and women’s speed relay climbing events at the Shaoxing Keqiao Yangshan Sport Climbing Center during the Hangzhou Asian Games. This significant win signifies China’s first gold medal in the climbing category at any Asian Games event.

The climbing sport debuted at the 18th Asian Games hosted in Indonesia. When pitted against the skilled Team Indonesia, the Chinese men’s and women’s climbing teams gave their all, securing their win by a whisker.

The turning point came early during the men’s finals when Team Indonesia committed a foul, setting the course for the rest of the match. Reflecting on the error, an Indonesian men’s team member remarked that fouls or mistakes are a part of the game, acknowledging the incident. Team Indonesia also lauded Team China for their swiftness and competitive spirit.

Elated with their gold medal achievement – a first in the history of the Asian Games – the Chinese climbing team expressed their pride. Although they clinched only a silver medal in the climbing event on October 3rd, their confidence in seizing the gold remained unshaken. With their sights set on future accomplishments, they are now preparing for the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics.
