Chongqing - On October 14, China unveiled its first domestically developed maritime situational awareness fusion perception software, MingKun Maritime Domain Awareness Database (MK-MDA) V1.0, and opened it for user registration in Western (Chongqing) Science City.
MK-MDA V1.0 effectively addresses challenges in maritime situational awareness, including data isolation, lack of systematic integration, poor data-business alignment, and inconsistent adoption of new technologies, unlike current industry methods relying only on single data sources and technology applications.
It offers users a wealth of oceanic information, including military, political, economic, environmental, and situational awareness. In maritime strategic awareness, it fills a void in the domestic landscape, positioning itself at the forefront of the fusion of situational data and internet news information nationally and internationally.
"This system integrates multiple heterogeneous data sources, such as AIS, ADS-B, commercial remote sensing, radio, and news sentiment, using intelligent data fusion engines and industry-specific knowledge engines as its core foundation," said Hu Bo, Director of the Peking University Center for Maritime Strategy Studies and the South China Sea Strategic Situational Probing Initiative (SCSPI), and Executive Director at Mingkun Digital (Chongqing) Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd.

Hu explained that it leverages digital technologies like cloud computing and artificial intelligence to efficiently achieve "data fusion" and "situational awareness," providing users with multidimensional, panoramic, and dynamic marine information, along with a comprehensive understanding of maritime military, political, economic, and environmental situations.
The MK-MDA offers four core functions: ships and aircraft situational awareness, islands and bases, hot events, and analysis and research.
Ships and Aircraft Situational Awareness provides visual representations of the movements of ships and aircraft from various countries, offering data for intelligent analytical decision-making.
Islands and Bases conduct intelligent analysis and monitoring of significant islands and bases in relevant maritime areas, tracking changes in geographic space and human activities related to important targets, ultimately offering activity intent analysis and situational warnings.
Hot Events provide real-time monitoring of official statements, news reports, and analytical studies related to major maritime hotspot events from domestic and international sources. This data is then integrated with Ships and aircraft situational awareness and islands and bases to objectively present these hot events' causes, processes, and outcomes.
Analysis and Research compile research findings on maritime strategy, policies, laws, economics, and the environment from authoritative experts and organizations worldwide.

The MK-MDA can be applied in various industries, including marine research, internal information intelligence, situational tracking, trend prediction, data substantiation, intelligence analysis, and educational support, delivering convenient, high-value maritime situational data, and customized solutions for government, enterprises, research institutions, universities, and media. This further empowers maritime strategic research and policy analysis.
"Mingkun is committed to strengthening the integration of its products with practical application scenarios, ensuring continuous upgrades and iterations," Hu added. "This will drive MK-MDA to enrich its fusion data and intellectual resources, facilitating intelligent maritime situational awareness and meeting the real-world needs of the industry."
Currently, the Peking University Chongqing Research Institute of Big Data has produced over 30 original results in the field of big data intelligence, with 20 of these results publicly released. They have led or participated in over 30 projects, including five national and provincial-level research projects.
