Chongqing - With the first batch of seven intelligent connected vehicles (ICVs) collectively recently hitting the road in Western (Chongqing) Science City, this symbolizes the initial establishment of a comprehensive industry ecosystem encompassing vehicle, road, cloud, network, and map.
Those ICVs span autonomous commuting cars, low-speed unmanned vending vehicles, low-speed autonomous delivery vehicles, and low-speed autonomous security patrol vehicles, which can avoid other vehicles and complete a series of actions such as lane changes, acceleration, and overtaking without human intervention.
First demonstration project built integrating China Solution
This is China's first demonstration project constructed entirely according to the integrated China Solution that harmonizes vehicle, road, and cloud technologies.
The integrated China Solution of vehicle-road-cloud, initiated by Li Keqiang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and chief scientist of the National Intelligent Connected Vehicle Innovation Center, is aimed at accelerating the development of a world-class intelligent connected new energy vehicle industry cluster in Chongqing.
To achieve this, the Chongqing High-tech Zone established the Intelligent Connected Vehicles Innovation Center of Western (Chongqing) Science City with an investment of nearly 600 million yuan (about USD 81.98 million) in April 2022. The primary focus is creating an intelligent connected vehicle demonstration zone that spans over 200 kilometers of urban roads within the Science City.
By the end of September, three significant projects related to the intelligent connected new energy vehicle industry, including the New Energy Vehicle Intelligent Inspection and Equipment Research Institute, signed agreements to establish their presence in the Chongqing High-tech Zone, with a total investment of 10.5 billion yuan (about USD 1.435 billion).
This Institute project will establish research and development platforms such as the Automobile Intelligent Inspection and Control Institute, the Automobile Electronic Safety Research Institute, and the Automobile Intelligent Manufacturing and Industrial Internet Research Institute.
Furthermore, they will create testing and inspection service platforms, including a new energy vehicle test and inspection platform, an automobile component electromagnetic compatibility service platform, and industrial internet and intelligent manufacturing platforms.
Over 40 intelligent connected new energy vehicle enterprises
"In the process of developing the intelligent connected new energy vehicle industry with high quality, we are not only nurturing new tracks but also focusing on upgrading traditional industries," said a relevant person in charge of the Chongqing High-tech Zone.
With over 40 intelligent connected new energy vehicle-related enterprises already gathered, the Chongqing High-tech Zone is committed to building a complete industry chain ecosystem, covering complete vehicles, key components, charging infrastructure, and intelligent connected vehicle demonstration operations.
In the first three quarters of this year, the Chongqing High-tech Zone has implemented 45 intelligent transformation projects, fostering new drivers of high-quality development through digitalization.
Chongqing High-tech Zone aims to become the city's hub for innovation in the intelligent connected vehicle industry and a vital manufacturing base for new energy commercial vehicles, with an output value target of 100 billion yuan (about USD 13.66 billion) by 2027.
