Changshou’s First China-Europe Freight Train Bolsters BRI Trade

Chongqing- The first Changshou multimodal train of China-Europe freight train (Chengdu-Chongqing) recently departed from Yuba Station. This train, loaded with 50  twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of merchandise sourced from Changshou District and its surrounding areas, embarked on its route to deliver goods to countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

The cargo on this train includes various items such as mechanical parts, composite materials, and daily necessities. These goods are first assembled in Changshou before being loaded onto the Yuxinou train.

Situated east of Chongqing's central urban area, Changshou District stretches across both banks of the majestic Yangtze River. It is renowned as a crucial hub for steel and chemical industries in the western region, serving as the primary urban center and pilot area in the urban integration development of Chongqing.

Dai Ming, mayor of Changshou District, said that the inauguration signifies a significant step in Changshou's integration into the BRI, linking the China-Europe freight train with the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor (ILSTC) and the Yangtze River Golden Waterway.

The Yuba Special Railway plays a crucial role in this logistical network. It stands out in Chongqing for its ability to handle containerized dangerous goods, serving as a vital logistics platform. The railway's strategic location, near two high-speed toll stations and just 10 kilometers from Changshou Port, facilitates efficient intermodal transportation.

Wang Zhijiang, vice general manager of Chongqing Yuba Logistics Co., Ltd., added, 'Changshou is poised to construct a crucial distribution center for chemicals and new materials under the ILSTC.'

The center will enable efficient distribution throughout Southwest China, with direct links to Southeast Asia through the ILSTC. To the west, it will connect with Central Asia and Europe through the China-Europe freight train, and to the east, it will leverage the Yangtze River's Golden Waterway for seamless river-sea intermodal transportation.

Changshou Port, near the Yuba Special Railway, is home to Chongqing's first and only public chemical terminal for dangerous goods containers. The chemical terminal could handle nearly a million tons of liquid chemicals and 50,000 TEUs annually.

Additionally, Changshou Port boasts the Xinhengyang Terminal, the largest liquid chemicals terminal in the upper Yangtze River, and the Chuanwei Logistics Terminal, a multimodal transportation system integrating rail, road, water, and pipeline networks.

Changshou's multimodal transportation system has rapidly expanded since August 2021, establishing direct trains to Qinzhou, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and connections to Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and Guizhou Province. The network enables local enterprises like HSUN, BASF, Yuntianhua Group, and bulk cargoes from southwest and northwest China to export to Southeast Asia, Africa, and South America via the ILSTC.
