Chongqing - The morning of January 20 witnessed the opening of the second session of the sixth Chongqing Municipal Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).
Over the past year, the Chongqing Municipal Committee of the CPPCC has made overall progress in advancing the quality of proposals, processing, and servicing.

Wang Xinqiang, Vice Chairman of the Chongqing Municipal Committee of the CPPCC, said that, in the past year, the report indicated that 1480 proposals were submitted, and 1315 were accepted around the central tasks of the city, all of which were processed by the end of last year. The satisfaction rate of members with the proposal handling was 97.46%.
Addressing over 2,000 issues of public concern
Li Jing, Vice Chairman of the Chongqing Municipal Committee of the CPPCC, delivered a work report, emphasizing Chongqing's commitment to implementing national strategies. The report included in-depth research on 13 key aspects of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, addressing logistics and operational challenges. Special attention was given to customs special supervision areas' development issues and bottlenecks.
Chongqing is concentrating on accelerating the establishment of a modern industrial system. A special consultation meeting was held to create a nationally important advanced manufacturing center. All 19 proposals were included in the action plan for high-quality development of the manufacturing industry and documents.
With a focus on the top strategic priority of advancing scientific innovation and talent development, consultations aimed to enhance the technology-based enterprise incubation system. Key proposals to address technology transfer issues were closely monitored, urging municipal departments to take action in creating high-quality incubation platforms.
Enhancing Chongqing's cultural soft power, consultations were held to foster new cultural formats and promote the high-quality development of the cultural industry. Research was conducted to advance the construction of the national parks with Yangtze River culture as their theme, and the progress of the Bashu Cultural Tourism Corridor was reported.
Addressing hot and difficult issues of public concern, proposals were made on issues related to integrated urban-rural basic education and public services in old residential areas. Leveraging the overall advantages of assistance groups, donations totaling 4.61 million yuan were made to support five industrial projects.
Over 900 Chongqing matter discussion venues were established collectively by the city, with over 2,000 activities conducted to coordinate and solve more than 2,000 issues of public concern.
Playing the role of a bridge and bond, contacts were made with 23 key private enterprises. Proposals were improved, and information on social sentiments and public opinions was reflected. A total of 1,181 proposals were assigned, and 2,236 issues were compiled in 2,025 reports on social sentiments and public opinions.
Strengthening unity and friendship
Strengthening unity and friendship with CPPCC Chongqing members from Hong Kong and Macao and specially invited attendees, the second session of the sixth Chongqing Municipal Committee of the CPPCC welcomed representatives from diverse backgrounds, including those from outside Chongqing, to gather information on Chongqing's development and foster a united front for progress.
Li outlined the work plan for 2024. It is a crucial year for achieving the goals of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025), advancing the comprehensive construction of the new modern Chongqing, and overcoming challenges in reform.
The Chongqing Municipal Committee of the CPPCC and its Standing Committee will strengthen ideological and political guidance, actively offer advice, build broad consensus, enhance personal construction, persist in fostering unity and friendship to pool strength, refine work mechanism arrangements, promote harmony in political party relations, ethnic relations, religious relations, class relations, and relations with compatriots at home and abroad.
