Chongqing is designated as the national high-tech industrialization base for functional materials. It hosts renowned companies like Southwest Aluminum (Group), Chongqing Polycomp International Corporation, and Chongqing Huafon Chemical Corporation.

The city's new materials sector includes six major areas: advanced steel materials, advanced non-ferrous metal materials, new chemical materials, advanced inorganic non-metallic materials, new energy battery materials, new electronic materials, and cutting-edge new materials.

New material products have been widely applied across various sectors of society, and cutting-edge products in aerospace, national defense, and rail transportation are among some of the most advanced in the world.

Manufacturing of high-performance fibers and composite materials, advanced polymer materials, new inorganic non-metallic materials, new lightweight alloy materials, aramid, basalt fibers, electronic-grade fiberglass, organosilicon materials, organic fluorine materials, high-quality special steel, and high-strength lightweight alloy products.

Key technology research and development include resin-based composite materials, rare earth functional materials, and organosilicon materials. Formation processes in the fields of graphene, carbon fibers, superconducting materials, nanomaterials, and composite material components. Development and manufacturing for downstream product applications.
