With its superior natural conditions and abundant resources, Chongqing is a key production base in China for high-quality grains, edible oils, condiments, pork, vegetables, and fruits. It serves as a base for hybrid rice seed production, a significant agricultural processing center, and a logistics distribution hub in western China.

Chongqing excels in key industries such as grain, oil, pigs, poultry, vegetables, flowers, seedlings, fruits, tea, edible fungi, aquatic products, and condiments. It is recognized as a national modern agriculture demonstration zone.

Chongqing's high-end agricultural sector has experienced rapid development. In 2022, the city focused on fostering 107 leading enterprises, with the total output value of the agricultural product processing industry reaching 381.9 billion yuan ($53.05 billion). Comprehensive income from rural tourism reached 90.3 billion yuan, and the online retail sales of agricultural products amounted to 18.6 billion yuan.

Key development focus and investment areas

Priority is given to areas such as the deep processing of agricultural products, developing a high-end seed industry and large-scale cultivation and breeding industry, and constructing high-standard farmland for vegetable and grain bases.

Intensified efforts are directed toward attracting modern agricultural enterprises and research institutions with new agricultural varieties and technologies. Furthermore, there is a strong push for promoting agricultural projects for leisure and sightseeing.
