Chongqing Rongchang High-Tech Industrial Development Zone, with a planned area of 28.88 square kilometers, has successfully established six municipal-level characteristic industrial parks encompassing areas such as textile and consumer goods, eyewear, ceramics, electronic circuits, leisure food, and intelligent connected new-energy vehicle components.

By the end of 2023, the Zone had attracted 790 industrial enterprises, 637 of which were in production, including 267 enterprises above the designated size. The industrial output value for the year reached 28 billion yuan ($3.86 billion), with the leading industrial clusters reaching 26.17 billion yuan. The proportion of R&D expenditure in the Zone reached 4.8 percent.

The Zone is focusing on building a "2335" advanced manufacturing cluster system.

Two leading industrial clusters, each valued at the 50-billion-yuan level

  • Intelligent connected new-energy vehicle components and smart manufacturing. The focus is on attracting manufacturing enterprises specializing in key automotive components, intelligent, specialized equipment, and other high-end equipment.

  • Food and agricultural product processing. Efforts are made to promote the clustering of industries such as leisure food, specialty beverages, condiments, meat processing, and feed processing to improve the supply chain.

Three pillar industry clusters, each valued at the 10-billion-yuan level

  • Biomedical industry. The emphasis lies in attracting a range of manufacturing enterprises, including biomedical products, chemical drugs, medical and food-grade hygienic materials, medical devices, and modern traditional Chinese medicines.

  • Electronic information. Developing industries include electronic circuits, computer and mobile phone components, smart terminal devices, and upstream raw materials for printed circuit boards (PCBs).

  • New materials and new energy. The focus is on attracting enterprises specializing in prefabricated components, waterproof and thermal insulation materials, photovoltaic modules, and innovative energy storage batteries.

Three industry clusters with characteristic advantages, each valued at the 5-billion-yuan level

  • The ceramic industry focuses on developing daily-use ceramics, building and sanitary ceramics, special ceramics, and daily-use glassware.

  • The apparel industry mainly focuses on sportswear, eyewear, and summer fabric clothing.

  • The veterinary medicine industry mainly focuses on the development of animal vaccines, antibodies, and veterinary drugs.

Five strategic emerging industry clusters

  • Life sciences

  • Future energy

  • Smart home

  • Sensors and instrumentation
