Chongqing Unveils Seventh Comprehensive Bonded Zone to Boost Trade with EU, ASEAN

Chongqing - The State Council, China's cabinet, recently approved the establishment of the Chongqing International Railway Port Comprehensive Bonded Zone, marking the city's seventh comprehensive bonded zone.

This new zone positions Chongqing as central and western China's most open economic platform, thereby boosting its international competitiveness.

The bonded zone, which spans 0.75 square kilometers and is located in the Chongqing International Logistics Hub Park next to the Chongqing Railway Port, includes facilities like the whole vehicle port and railway bonded logistics center.

Its strategic position leverages synergies with nearby facilities such as the Chongqing Tuanjiecun Station Container Center and the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor's dry port.

The Chongqing International Logistics Hub Park, the starting point for the China-Europe freight train, handles key operations such as importing whole vehicles and managing imported meat and international mail.

In the first quarter of 2024, the park dispatched 950 international trains, handled cargo valued at 25.3 billion yuan, and facilitated the import and export of 9,934 vehicles.

Han Chao, Deputy General Manager of Chongqing International Logistics Hub Park, stated that the Chongqing Railway Bonded Logistics Center is currently unable to keep up with the growing demands of the park’s railway-centric economy and expanding industry chain.

"Our current center cannot handle large-scale vehicle storage or modifications for parallel-imported automobiles," he explained.

Han highlighted the benefits of the new comprehensive bonded zone, noting that it represents the highest level of China's special customs supervision areas and offers the most favorable policies and streamlined procedures. "This zone will effectively resolve our current challenges," he said.

The zone will boost key industries such as vehicle imports and exports, high-end equipment manufacturing, and cross-border cold chain logistics. It will also support R&D, testing, and maintenance essential to the city's "33618" modern manufacturing cluster system.

"We aim to use the comprehensive bonded zone's policy and customs advantages to improve our supply chain services and concentrate on developing the bonded processing and manufacturing sectors," said Chen Hengyi, Chairman of Chongqing Nielsen Supply Chain Management Co., Ltd.

Chongqing has six comprehensive protection zones, such as the Chongqing Xiyong and Jiangjin Comprehensive Bonded Zones, which focus on local industries while integrating global market strategies. Similarly, the Chongqing International Railway Port Comprehensive Bonded Zone leverages its railway port features to seamlessly integrate services, promoting synergy among ASEAN, the EU, and domestic markets.
