Chongqing to Establish China’s Second International NEV Brand Center After Beijing

Chongqing - At the 2024 World Brand Moganshan Conference in Zhejiang, Chongqing's Liangjiang New Area signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Equipment Center of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. This agreement establishes the International New Energy Vehicle (NEV) Brand Center in Liangjiang, the second in China after Beijing.

The International NEV Brand Center will develop NEV testing facilities, type approval, and an import-export hub in Liangjiang New Area. It will showcase NEV brands, host events, conduct research, and facilitate brand exchanges. By setting international NEV brand standards, releasing global rankings, and hosting conferences, the center aims to promote the internationalization and collaboration of China's NEV industry.

Zhang Li, Deputy Director of the Administrative Committee of Liangjiang New Area, emphasized that the Brand Center aligns with Chongqing's strategic vision. Positioned as a key player in China's intelligent NEVs and Internet of Vehicles, the center will drive industry innovation, promote technological exchanges, and enhance brand influence, contributing to national strategic goals.

Zhang emphasized that the center will support NEV brand internationalization, foster domestic and foreign industry collaboration, and promote cooperation in brand evaluation, promotion, and exchanges. This initiative aims to accelerate global NEV expansion and foster mutually beneficial cooperation in the industry.

Chongqing's selection as the host city for the International NEV Brand Center is strategic, given China's NEV market penetration exceeding 50% in April 2024. Chongqing is poised to lead this transformation with its strong industrial base and growing local automobile brands. The city has developed a "1+10+1000" industrial cluster, led by Changan Automobile, supported by over ten vehicle manufacturers and thousands of suppliers, achieving a 70% local supporting rate.

Chongqing's automobile industry added value in the first quarter, which rose by 23.7%. Car production grew by 10.1%, and NEV production doubled to 165,100 units. Liangjiang New Area, home to Seres' super factory, saw NEV output value and volume increase by 66.2% and 24.9%, respectively.

Chongqing's automakers, including Changan Automobile and Seres, are thriving. Changan plans to launch eight new NEVs this year, aiming to exceed 2.65 million in sales and production. Seres delivered 31,727 vehicles in Q1, with 24,598 being the new M7 model, making it China's top-selling new NEV.

According to the Chongqing Automobile Commercial Association, the city's NEV sales continue to soar, with a penetration rate reaching 50.9%, consistently leading the national market.
