Chongqing Surgical Device Maker’s 360-Degree Bur Competes with Medtronic, Stryker

Chongqing - Chongqing Xishan Science & Technology Co., Ltd., a surgical device manufacturer in Liangjiang New Area and Chongqing's 2024 "Single Champion Manufacturer," announced plans to target markets in Latin America, Europe, and Southeast Asia in 2025.

Pan Yangzi, Xishan's International Business Director, said that the company will emphasize technological differentiation more to enhance its competitiveness in the target markets.

Since entering the international market in 2019, Xishan has established a business network spanning 46 countries. It offers surgical devices primarily used in minimally invasive procedures in neurosurgery, spinal surgery, orthopedic surgery, and ENT surgery.

Minimally invasive surgery is gradually becoming the mainstream trend in surgical treatment worldwide. Pan said that markets with relatively lagging surgical techniques, including Southeast Asia, also actively embrace minimally invasive surgery.

Pan acknowledged that Xishan faces strong competition from global leaders like Medtronic and Stryker. These companies dominate the market due to their advanced technology, high-quality products, and extensive service networks.

Medtronic is renowned for its technological strength in neurosurgical treatment devices, while Stryker focuses on orthopedics, endoscopy, and surgical robotics. Both companies' products are recognized for their high quality and system integration capabilities.

Pan remarked that Xishan adopts differentiated technological solutions to meet the challenges of confronting such formidable competitors. She exemplified this with the Xishan 360-degree Bendable Bur (the Bur), which allows full-angle adjustments from 0 to 360 degrees and is used in minimally invasive spine surgery.

In contrast to the competitors who offer identical types of burs but with only fixed angles, this 360-degree flexibility of the Bur enhances the surgeon's field of view during the procedure. The adjustable head allows for more precise movements, enabling access to deeper lesions with minimal bone removal and reduced trauma to the patient.

Apart from opting for technological differentiation as a solution, continuously pursuing the latest cutting-edge technologies is also crucial. Pan mentioned that minimally invasive surgical technology is advancing through AI and robotics integration.

She said, "Compared to five years ago, the number of companies specializing in surgical robot development has increased by dozens." Additionally, numerous large enterprises strive to introduce AI-integrated product solutions, leveraging artificial intelligence to assist in diagnosis and treatment.

Chongqing Xishan Science & Technology Co., Ltd. specializes in producing advanced surgical instruments, including precision tools for neurosurgery. The company is known for its commitment to innovation and quality and offers cutting-edge solutions to healthcare professionals.
