Global Mayors Dialogue in Nanning Deepens Relationship between Chinese and ASEAN Cities

Nanning - On January 16, the "Global Mayors Dialogue · Nanning" kicked off in Nanning. Mayors or representatives of mayors from 12 cities across eight countries, including China, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam, gathered in Nanning to explore new ideas and contribute wisdom for promoting the construction of a closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future through in-depth dialogues and communication.

In the main event of the "Global Mayors Dialogue · Nanning," mayors or mayor representatives from Nanning City in China, Vientiane City in Laos, Yangon City in Myanmar, Surat Thani Province in Thailand, Kedah State in Malaysia, Mong Cai City in Vietnam, Siem Reap City in Cambodia, and Mataram City in Indonesia gathered together to discuss the important topic of "Building a China-ASEAN Community of Friendship: Urban Openness and Cooperation", offering suggestions and insights to explore new paths for global urban governance and to outline a new blueprint for regional sustainable development.

Meanwhile, city representatives from participating countries jointly issued the "Nanning Initiative," which advocates deepening friendly exchanges between cities to contribute to building a closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future, deepening economic and trade cooperation between cities so that development achievements can better benefit the people of both China and ASEAN countries; and deepening the emotional bonds of people between cities to make vigorous efforts towards jointly building a peaceful, safe, prosperous, beautiful, and friendly home for China and ASEAN.At the event, 

Nanning and Yangon, Myanmar, signed a memorandum of the friendship and exchange plan for 2025-2026. The attending parties also held a signing ceremony for major exchange and cooperation projects, promoted the signing of 14 projects covering fields such as economy and trade, logistics and transportation, education, and tourism, and achieved an investment of over 3.3 billion yuan (USD 450.45 million) in foreign cooperation.
