China’s Pickled Mustard Meets Black Pork in Trailblazing Eco-Partnership Launching Sustainable Snacks

Chongqing On May 15, 2025, Fuling Zhacai (Pickled Mustard) and Fuling Black Pig formally signed a strategic cooperation agreement at the Fuling Black Pig Industrial Park in Nantuo Town, Fuling District. This landmark partnership between Chongqing Fuling Zhacai Group Co., Ltd and Chongqing Hailin Pig Development Co., Ltd. integrates cultivation, product development, and joint marketing initiatives, marking a significant step toward sustainable agriculture and rural revitalization.

Fuling District Deputy Chief Shi Zelin and Chinese Academy of Engineering Academician Yin Yulong attended the ceremony, highlighting the event's importance. Gao Xiang, Chairman of Fuling Zhacai Group, and Li Hailin, Chairman of Hailin Pig, jointly inaugurated the "Wujiang Zhacai-Fuling Black Pig Green Development Base." This innovative partnership pioneers a model of sustainable agriculture, effectively combining crop farming and animal husbandry.

Academician Yin stressed the significance of the collaboration, stating, "Developing integrated crop-livestock systems is essential for sustainable agriculture, improving economic returns, environmental protection, and ensuring food safety. This cooperation provides a powerful model for rural development."

Under this new framework, Hailin Pig will supply organic fertilizer derived from pig farming to Zhacai cultivation bases, significantly reducing chemical fertilizer usage by about 30%. This approach enhances environmental sustainability and guarantees superior raw material quality. Concurrently, Fuling Zhacai will contribute its expertise in advanced agricultural techniques, raising Zhacai yields by 8%-12% and substantially increasing market value. Additionally, specialized biological feed made from Zhacai byproducts will increase profitability per pig by over 150 Chinese yuan (about 20.8 US dollars).

During the ceremony, both enterprises introduced a series of innovative collaborative products, including Zhacai Black Pig Pork Belly, Pork Buns, Dumplings, and Sausages, expanding Zhacai's consumer applications from traditional condiments to convenience foods. These novel products have successfully attracted significant industry attention, enhancing market participation and setting a benchmark for further industrial integration.

Looking ahead, the joint research and development team will further innovate, focusing on ready-to-eat dishes and sauces that combine Zhacai with premium Black Pig pork. Leveraging advanced processing capabilities and consistently high-quality raw materials, both companies aim to strengthen comprehensive quality control from the farm to the consumer table, supporting scalable growth of the combined industry.
