A Car Every 30 Seconds: International Guests Explore Chongqing’s Automated Factory

Chongqing - International guests explored how embodied AI and advanced factories are shaping manufacturing during a tour in Chongqing on October 22, part of the 2026 World Science and Technology Development Forum.

Inside the Seres Super Factory, guests saw AI inspection systems stationed along production lines and met “Xiao Sai,” a robot equipped with multimodal sensing technology. At the end of the chassis line, an “AI quality inspector” takes high-speed images of each assembled chassis, locating and checking 84 bolts in just one second. The results are uploaded to a digital platform for staff to review and act on.

On the second chassis line, chassis for extended-range and fully electric vehicles move one behind another as automated equipment assembles them. The flexible line identifies parts for different models and adjusts its operations accordingly, allowing multiple models to be welded and assembled on the same line.

Meanwhile, with the help of Seres' digital twin platform, all vehicle models' components and production processes are fully traceable throughout the entire flow. This highly intelligent and highly adaptive production approach earned praise from the guests.

According to the company’s guide, the factory has a planned annual capacity of 700,000 vehicles, with more than 1,600 smart devices and over 3,000 industrial robots working together. Stamping, welding and painting are 100% automated, and a finished vehicle rolls off the line every 30 seconds on average.

“You wave your hand, and the door closes. And this is a hybrid, which is more convenient for us. We should get in touch with their managers and explore how to bring it to Myanmar,” said Dr. Aung Kyaw Myat, President of the Myanmar Engineering Council.

Sevnce Robotics develops and manufactures robots for inspections, rescue operations and accident response in hazardous environments, including those with high temperatures and pressures. Its robots are used across the energy, baijiu production, chemical and new energy vehicle industries, making it a leading company in China’s emergency-response robotics sector.

At Sevnce Robotics' Chongqing production base, guests toured the sub-assembly, final assembly, and joint debugging and testing processes of quadruped robots and 2C wheeled inspection robots.

They observed the robots' inspection performance on park roads, in narrow factory buildings, and in ice-and-snow environments. These robots integrate multiple functions and adapt to a variety of environments, leaving a deep impression on the guests.

The tour offered four routes covering embodied AI and advanced factories, energy transformation and future industries, germplasm innovation and biotechnology, and transport hubs and urban planning.

The visits gave participants a firsthand look at Chongqing’s innovation ecosystem and opportunities for international cooperation as a major science and technology hub in western China and an advanced manufacturing center.
