On March 11, 2019, the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Culture and Tourism Development released that the Organizing Committee of the International Golden Idea Competition on Culture and Tourism Integrated Development of Chongqing has received nearly 500 pieces of plans and suggestions since January 16. Moreover, there are over 40 English contributions. The collection activity has attracted a lot of wonderful ideas for the megacity in Southwest China.

Integration of culture and tourism

The integration of culture and tourism doesn’t mean their simple combination. The two aspects need to integrate with, catalyze, and energize each other. Methods to promote the integrated development of culture and tourism are “golden ideas” Chongqing needs most. Ideas for taking full advantage of the Three Gorges, downtown, arts and culture, hot spring and county.

On January 16, Chongqing launched the “Global Competition of Collecting Golden Ideas for the Integrated Development of Culture and Tourism”. It solicited ideas, plans, and suggestions globally to provide new ideas for the high-quality integrated development of culture and tourism. The competition serves as an opportunity to carry out the global promotion of Chongqing’s urban image, tourism, and cultural resources. It aimed to attract more tourists and market entities. In this way, Chongqing, a land of natural beauty and a city with the cultural appeal, will draw more attention.

It has been nearly two months since the activity was launched. The Organization Committee has received nearly 500 pieces of creative ideas, plans and suggestions, including over 40 English contributions. Among them, a lot of wonderful ideas are refreshing and imaginative.

What are the suggestions for the city's cultural tourism

The contemporary mono-rail is fast and the traditional cruise ship is slow. They can offer the tourists a unique experience of land-water integration with mountains and rivers surrounding them. Chongqing may create water-rail integrated tourism routes and open water buses of the Two Rivers (the Yangtze River and the Jialing River). In this way, it can enhance visitors’ experience effect of the mountain city.

In Chongqing’s tourism system, there is a lack of a tourism-themed song that is sweet-sounding and easy to sing and remember. That has influenced the integrity of its tourism brand image. Therefore, Chongqing may openly collect a song which is familiar to and popular with people.

Some people suggested the full linkage of the main city business circles and landscape resources. They also proposed vigorous development of the smart night urban tourism economy. The urban space is limited and new-energy vehicles are increasingly popular. On this basis, Chongqing should accelerate the layout of new-energy vehicles within a 300-kilometer radius of the metropolitan area. It should give full play to the urban “overflow” effect. That means Chongqing should divert the passenger flow from the city to the surrounding towns and villages. Therefore, it can enable the urban and rural areas to have their unique beauty and to create beauty for Chongqing together. Additionally, Chongqing may prepare for the construction of a museum of old photos. It may operate the museum in a market-oriented way for a long time. Therefore, ancient image memories and modern urban landscape will enhance each other’s beauty to catalyze culture and tourism integration.

Contribute your golden ideas before April 19

With the activity deepening, a number of think tanks around the world are enthusiastic. As a result, more and more high-quality “golden ideas” continue to emerge, said the Commission.

Before April 19 (deadline for contributing), the public can participate in the activity via the online page, E-mail, and written delivery. It is expected that the first, second, and third prizes will be awarded by the expert panel in mid-to-late June. Among them, the bonus of the first prize is RMB 100,000. Moreover, Chongqing will hold a signing ceremony of golden ideas for excellent works’ settlement and their transformation of achievements.
