At the opening ceremony, both national anthems of Hungary and China were played successively in Petőfi Culture and Art Museum in a solemn atmosphere. This light orange building built in the late 19th-century, it looks extremely attractive under the blue sky. It is introduced that in the museum, named after Petőfi Sándor—a patriotic poet of Hungary, is known as the pride of Szentes.

This event opened in the performance of Chongqing Nationalities Orchestra. Audience’s attention was instantly drawn when the live music was played from the traditional Chinese instruments, such as erhu, pipa, and yangqin. After the song, warm and rhythmical applauses came from the audience, whose praise encouraged performers. Then, the soothing Jasmine Flower, a popular Chinese folk music, deeply affected the hearts of the audience.

The atmosphere came to a climax with the performance of the long spout teapot as well as the face changing of Sichuan opera. Every time when the tea was poured into the cup through the one-meter-long spout, there were always gasps of amazement from the audience.

Xiong Shaohua, Vice Chairman of Chongqing Calligraphers Association, performed his calligraphy and paintings with Sun Junfeng, a young artist who played guqin. Xiong Shaohua painted amid the music, and in minutes, a vivid giant panda was presented to the audience. “The traditional Chinese painting has given full expression to the giant panda, China’s ‘national treasure’, offering Hungary’s audience a closer look at China’s art of painting and calligraphy.” Xiong Shaohua said.

This performance has been reported by numerous local media. A journalist from Szentes TV Station thought that Chinese culture impressed citizens of Szentes with brilliant performance. She said that the station recorded the entire program, which will be broadcast during the significant festivals, such as Christmas, thus to further spread the essence of the performance.

“I have been to Chongqing twice, impressed by its development vitality. The performance is very impressive, deepening my understanding of Chinese culture.” Mayor Szirbik Imre of Szentes said.

It is reported that the Cultural Week will continue in Hungary’s Szeged and Budapest.
