Shuangjiang Ancient Town

The Shuangjiang Ancient Town is located in Tongnan District of Chongqing. It is the home to rarely-seen architectural complexes of the Qing Dynasty. The buildings cover an area of 38 thousand square meters.

The Shuangjiang Ancient Town was rated as a 4A-class scenic spot of China in December 2018. Also, it has the well-preserved Central Street, Riverside Street, Upper West Street, Lower West Street, Xinglong Street, and Laozhu Lane. Besides the nine ancient streets built in the Qing Dynasty, visitors can also enjoy over 20 buildings of that time.

Enjoying picturesque scenery near mountains and rivers, the natural landscapes here a are a recurring motif in Chinese ink paintings, embracing and decorating the ancient town.

The profound and abundant history and culture of Shuangjiang have known hundreds of years.

On one hand, Sichuan Opera, Chinese gong and drum performance, and dragon dance are attractive. On the other hand, visitors can also enjoy paper cutting and Chinese printmaking, waist drum and Yangge dance, lion dance and pingshu here.

In addition, kuaiban performance in the local dialect, teahouse culture, and ancient oil-pressing plant are the name cards of Shuangjiang folk customs.

In terms of food, steamed fish, spiced peanuts, Chen’s liangfen, and ciba are very recommended.

Transport: It is convenient to take a bus or train from downtown Chongqing, and it takes about 2 hours and 45 minutes respectively to Tongnan. Then from there, you can easily find public transport buses heading to Shuangjiang.
