a milestone project for Chongqing industrial development

On November 30, the startup ceremony of Global Low Earth Orbit Satellite Mobile Communication and Space Internet Project as well as the Unveiling Ceremony of Dongfanghong Satellite Mobile Communications Co., Ltd. kicked off in Chongqing. The global headquarters of “Air 5G” and “Hongyan Constellation” officially settled in Chongqing Liangjiang New Area. Moreover, the project is highly consistent with the orientation of Chongqing big data intelligence development. It is the project with the largest single contract signing amount at the first Smart China Expo this year. Meanwhile, the project is also a milestone project for Chongqing industrial development.

a primary investment of 20 billion yuan

The launch coincided with the plaque unveiling ceremony for Dongfanghong Satellite Mobile Communication Co Ltd.  Liangjiang New Area is hopefully to be the first global headquarters for the space internet in China.

With a primary investment of 20 billion yuan ($2.9 billion), the project is the first large-scale national commercial space project.

Upon completion, the project will be able to realize global two-way communication in real time under complicated geological conditions and will operate 24 hours a day thanks to a fully covered 5G internet system supported by hundreds of LEO small satellite constellations and a ground system.

According to Xieyun, general manager of Dongfanghong, 5G networking allows no delay in telephone communication, internet surfing, and data processing, and for the 1000-mile height of low-earth orbit satellites shortens the signal velocity.

The unit will be linked with a station on the ground to improve its usability and efficiency. It will also be adapted to include features such as guidance enhancement, aviation, and navigation surveillance, and unmanned driving technology.

The project has committed to building a global headquarters, an operation center, a talent training base and supporting industry parks in Liangjiang New Area.

Relying on the Project, Chongqing Liangjiang New Area is hoping to become one of the global headquarter bases in the first space internet. Therefore, it will build a more complete global aerial information infrastructure network. Besides, it benefits all people in the countries along the “Belt and Road” Initiative. In addition, the Project highly accords with the orientation of Chongqing big data intelligence development.

When the “Red East I” Satellite successfully launched in the last seventies,  China became the 5th country in the world to launch domestic satellites through homemade rockets. Since then, China had ushered in the aerospace era.
