According to the historical record, Jiangbei district has been a territory of Ba state (the ancient city before Chongqing) during the Shang and Zhou dynasties (approximately 1600 to 256 BC).

In 1745, Jiangbei district got its name since it was located at the north of the Jialing River. In 1798, the officials built an earthen city wall and enclosed Jiangbei city. By the reign of Xianfeng emperor (1851-1861), an entire Jiangbei ancient city stood.

The Jiangbei ancient city has ten gates, and the preservation of the best is the Baoding gate. Baoding gate was built in 1835, and its name in Chinese means "may God bless you."

Today, Jiangbeizui central business district, full of high-rise buildings and fashion icons stands on where the old city is. As the opening highland and window of Chongqing's interior, it's one of the regions with the highest concentration of modern financial enterprises in the Midwest of China.

As a child growing up in a factory compound, Li Chuanbo noticed that the development of the city was squeezing the city's existing public spaces, and the friendly neighborhood relationships were weakening. He wanted to fix that, so, he was inspired to build the Beicang project.

Beicang, formerly known as Jiangbei textile warehouse, was built in 1956 and has always been the production and logistics hub of Chongqing textile industry. After the decline of the textile industry in the 1990s, Jiangbei textile warehouse was abandoned.

In the process of building Beicang, Li Chuanbo used original materials such as blue bricks, wood, and old iron doors to decorate the architectural scenes, restoring the most authentic original scene here.

Since its opening, Beicang has been attracting tourists because of its nostalgic and fashionable characteristics. It can reach nearly 10 thousand visitors during holidays and art activities.
