Chongqing - Southwestern China's Chongqing is known as a riverside and mountainous city. The riversides of the Yangtze River and the Jialing River (also known as "Two Rivers and Four Riversides"), which flow through the downtown, have formed the main axis of its urban development.

Jiangbei launches the first step

On January 12, the 6-kilometer riverside management and improvement project of Jiangbei District was first initiated. Also, this part is the Phase I of the whole project of “Two Rivers and Four Riversides”. It is scheduled to be completed in May this year. Besides, the Phase I follow-up project is expected to start in the third quarter of this year. It will be completed in 2020 and open to the public.

“The Culture develops simultaneously with an eco-friendly design.” A piece of information came from Jiangbei District that, Jiangbei Town, as a cradle of Chongqing’s main urban area, enjoys a time-honored history and rich culture.

Meanwhile, the design is to make parallel progress between culture, ecology, people’s livelihood and function, instead of simply function-oriented and remedial design philosophy.

25 key tasks

Jiangbei District has 104 km riverside line, and it will complete 25 key tasks during the whole governance and improvement work.

First, creating Eco-Zone with Picturesque Scenery. Main tasks include tackling stubborn environmental pollution, restoring natural ecosystems, improving urban water bodies, and greening and beautifying riverbank facilities.

Second, creating the Multi-level Urban Landscape Zone. Main tasks include optimizing functions of the riverside city and skyline and improving building image quality, the landscape of the river-crossing bridge and night scenes. Besides, the project should build viewing and watching facilities.

Third, creating Recreation Zone with Convenient and Sharing Facilities. Main tasks include expanding riverside open space, building riverside green parks, enriching waterfront activity space and improving riverside recreational walk path. The project should also optimize riverside transportation system, perfect public transportation service and optimize public service facilities.

Finally, creating Characteristic Zone with Humanistic and Cultural Landscape. Main tasks include protecting historical and cultural resources and creating the distinctive river cruise tour.

By 2022, the governance and improvement of “Two Rivers and Four Riversides” will have been basically completed. It will become a “World-class Riverside Zone” and the name card of Chongqing.
