Urban development and construction have created a significant number of bare slopes in the mountainous city. Fortunately, these bald spots are about to acquire a brand new look, turning into eye-catching scenes in the city. According to Urban Management and Law Enforcement of Chongqing, the government projected to complete greening of 300 slope fields in two years.
Currently, there are some 300 target land parcels in the main urban area, covering about 10 million square meters. According to the plan, slopes along the inner ring expressways, at inlets and outlets of main urban roads, the bridge ends, tunnel portals and ridgelines in the city will be included as the first batch of key greening sites in 2019.
The second batch of critical greening sites in 2020 will cover protective slopes for the “Four Mountains” (Jinyun Mountain, Zhongliang Mountain, Tongluo Mountain, and Mingyue Mountain), the eco-barriers of Chongqing; ecological bank protection slopes for the Two Rivers (Yangtze River and Jialing River) as well as their branches; eco-corridor slopes along the inner ring road; revetments, high cutting slopes, portal slopes; and vacant slopes of urban construction lands.
The source further indicated that the greening scheme would be combined with several other programs, including the protection improvement plan for the Four Mountains, the improvement plan for control of Two Rivers and Four Shores, the controlling improvement plan called Clean River and Green Bank and the special plan Mountain Trails. The slope greening improvement plans will be classified, based on different functions, resource endowment, and current situations, into seven categories, such as the greening of protective slopes for mountain eco-barriers and greening of green bank protection slopes for the two rivers and their branches.
