Chongqing-Vietnam trains strive for one round-trip train each day to satisfy the demands along with the track

Recalling the work of the last year, Yu Chun, responsible for the logistics business of the Chongqing-Vietnam trains, said that the changes were beyond the expectation. The accurate data explains part of the changes: In the first half of 2018, the trains carried over 40 containers every month; in February this year, the carrying capacity has reached to 40 containers every week.

“For guests there, Chongqing is not only a destination but also a significant junction to reach the world.” Yu Chun said.

According to the statistical data of Yuxinou (Chongqing) Logistics Co., Ltd., the trains to Vietnam have completed 55 runs during the nine months since March 2018. Six of them departed from Chongqing, and the rest 49 were returning ones.

Chongqing-Vietnam trains serve as the southward stretch of the China-Europe Railway Express (Chongqing), and it takes railway-to-railway transportation mode. The trains will reach Vietnam directly and further get deep into the inland hinterland of Indo-China Peninsula. In the future, it will get to Bangkok (Thailand), Laos, Singapore, and other regions through Trans-Asian Railway (TAR), thus closely linking with China-Indo-China Peninsula Economic Corridor.

“According to the Chongqing Office of Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency, most exporters there selected railway as the transport mode. Reducing the logistics cost is the most influential motivation for the changes in their modes of transport.” Qi Dan said.

He admitted that currently, the amount of trains from Chongqing to Vietnam is largely insufficient.

“From the data of last year, the amount of Vietnam-bound trains from Chongqing is only one-eighth of the returning trains.”

Abundant and diverse goods supply will bring great changes. “Our targeted goods supply is not limited to Chongqing and the rest of Southwestern China. In the future, supported by our offices and transfer stations in Europe, we will attract more European suppliers and enable them to transport goods to Southeast Asian countries including Vietnam.”

Qi Dan said that one round-trip train between Chongqing and Vietnam should be the significant measure for the parties concerned to reach Chinese and European markets from Chongqing.

Meanwhile, according to the related department of Vietnam, the railway to Yunnan and Guangxi will be upgraded to accelerate the Southern Transport Corridor. Then the trains will speed up to 200 km/h, almost double the current level.
