Recently, the sixteenth Tien-yow Jeme Civil Engineering Prize, the highest prize in civil engineering in China, was awarded. Moreover, Chongqing Dongshuimen Yangtze River Bridge and Qiansimen Jialing River Bridge won this honor, becoming the only prize-winner program of Chongqing this time.

Under this construction program, the designers have achieved many feats. They have built the world's largest partially cable-stayed bridge with double towers and single cable plane. They have also constructed the world's largest partially cable-stayed bridge with a single tower and single cable plane. Lastly, they have erected the first and only cable-stayed bridge with a single cable and double trusses on this planet.

The two bridges share similar designs and are connected end to end. They contrast finely with each other and look beautiful alone. In addition, the two bridges, stay in harmony with the surrounding environment, earning their landmark status as landmark structures integrating traffic function, culture, science, technology, and innovation.

Since last year, the bridges have emerged repeatedly on Tiktok, a media app for creating and sharing photos and short videos, becoming online-stars for citizens and visitors alike. So, what are the innovations and technological triumphs behind these two bridges?

According to the official website of China Civil Engineering Society, the two bridges first adopted the partially cable-stayed structure with single cable plane and double trusses, suitable for highway and rail traffic at the same time:

• The sparse cable-stayed structure with single cable plane has enhanced the permeable performance of the upper bridge deck;
• The double-main-truss arrangement has solved existing issues with the track and tunnel connections under crowded buildings;
• The vertical-shuttle-shaped towers with curved surfaces make the landscapes of the rivers, city, and bridges more harmonious.

As the world's first partially cable-stayed bridges, whose spans have exceeded 400 meters, they can be respected as the significant milestones. The successful completion has promoted the techniques of partially cable-stayed bridges around the world. The bridges have enhanced the international status and competitiveness of Chinese bridges of this kind, have boosted the economic development of Chongqing, and have also generated economic and social benefits.
