The New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor (ILSTC) achieved remarkable results in two aspects through the rail-sea intermodal transport in less than a month.

The first “customized train” to India

On the morning of April 10, the first “customized train” to India departed from Chongqing through the rail-sea intermodal transport.

With 25 containers automotive components worth more than RMB 8 million, this train set off from Tuanjiecun Railway Station of Chongqing to the Port of Qinzhou in Guangxi, and finally arrived in India by marine freighters.

In addition to the small-batch space-booking services for the majority of market entities, it can also provide more diversified land-sea transport services to meet customers’ delivery needs of “customized” special trains. This, therefore, is an extension of the publicness of the rail-sea transport platform of ILSTC.

According to the introduction of Wang Yupei, Chairman of China-Singapore Southward Channel (Chongqing) Logistics Development Co., Ltd., the train will get to Qinzhou within two days and finally arrive in India by marine freighters. It only takes about 20 days in total, 14 days less than the river-sea intermodal transport.

Expectedly, all parts of the world will see more Chinese exports via special trains in the future.

Last year, ILSTC covered 155 ports in 71 countries and regions in six continents, but now, the number of ports has reached 166.

The first batch of parallel-imported vehicles

Chongqing has ushered in a new category of parallel-imported vehicles.

The ILSTC train through the rail-sea intermodal transport arrived in Chongqing on March 26.

On that morning, four 2019 Toyota Sienna vehicles, after unpacking inspection and customs clearance, entered Chongqing railway port. This marks Chongqing has made a new breakthrough in bonded import after the approval of the port for imported vehicles.

Departing from Canada, they transferred at China’s Hong Kong to Guangxi’s Beibuwan Port, and eventually to Chongqing International Logistic Hub Park. It is a new category after the vehicles from the Middle East and the US.

These parallel-imported vehicles can enjoy irregular bonded services: transferring to the bonded logistics center near the port instead of going through the immediate customs clearance.

Temporary non-payment of import tariff and levied added-value tax is acceptable due to the storage in the bonded warehouse. After launching the products in the domestic market, the enterprises pay the corresponding tax, thus saving costs. Furthermore, there is no need for imported vehicles with certification stored in Type B to submit the license besides legal provisions in ordinary circumstances. With the procedures simplified, the enterprises can only present these documents to China Customs for entry in the domestic market.
